Seriously. The lineup for this year is beyond incredible. Not only are we getting a second mainline Mario on the same console for the first time since the NES, we're also getting a new take on Metroid, one of gaming's most celebrated franchises. And going even further, we're also supposedly getting the first proper Zelda-game for this current console generation (Twilight Princess is technically last-gen). And it doesn't even stop there.
Recently we got to hear about The Last Story, a Nintendo-published game from the very creator of the legendary Final Fantasy-franchise, also set for release in 2010 (at least in Japan). Yet the story doesn't end. Most are certain that Nintendo have even more in store, and it's hard to believe that they wouldn't. Even if these three blockbusters are all we have to await at E3, we're still getting stuff from lesser franchises - Endless Ocean has a sequel on it's way, and cult classic Sin & Punishment is being renewed as well. Not only that, but, much like every year since the Wii launched, there have been rumblings about the much-doubted Kirby Wii.
Thankfully, this year, certain third parties are no slouches either. No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle has already reached the US to glowing reviews and will be hitting the rest of the world later this year. Tales of Graces has already seen it's japanese release, and for all us overseas Talesophiles it's one of the most awaited releases of the year. Monster Hunter Tri lit up the charts in Japan, and with backing from Nintendo themselves, chances are high that this is going to be a hit. It's a proper online game and a real effort from a third party, exclusively for the Wii. Red Steel 2 is also getting a lot of attention, and from all we've seen so far it looks like a really strong effort from Ubisoft.
And the greatest part of it all? I'm still probably forgetting some stuff. Also, we're only at the beginning of February. Announcements are still going to be made for upcoming Wii games, but even with just this lineup we already have it's beyond commendable. It's downright fantastic. And nobody can claim otherwise.
