Super Mario Bros 2. (USA) doesn't even need to be argued if it is mainline or not. It introduced so many things to the franchise you can't possibly deny it as a mainline Mario. we got bob-omb, birdo, Shy Guy, Ninji, Pokey and more out of the game.
