I don't think it will be goty. I think FFXIII will get a 10 from ign.

And, mario, zelda, metroid, last guardian, and possibly ff v xiii will also be out this year.

I expect 8.4 for FF13 from IGN.

Why exactly?

JRPG's have had a hard time this gen. They aren't getting much love from the west. Yes I know it's FF, but from certain previews Ive watched and read I feel they are sounding like not all giving 9+'s. Gametrailers preview makes me think they will give anything from 7-8.5. They seem to mention lots they didnt like.

I think if it does that poorly in Western reviews, then it's not saying too much about the game but is instead showing a lot of bias of Western reviewers for Western games.  Let's not forget it received a 39 / 40 from Famitsu and was recently rated the best game of all time by Famitsu readers.

Yeah Im aware of that. But games have recieved good scores in Famistu before and not scored amazing over here. Lost Odyssey got 37 didnt it in Famistu? Thats like a 9.3. It didnt recieve great status in Meta.

I think it will win some, but there are too many games of its calibre coming out this year for it to dominate like Uncharted 2.

God of War III
Fable III
Halo Reach
Gran Turismo 5
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Starcraft II
The Last Guardian
Heavy Rain
Bayonetta
Metroid: Other M
Bioshock 2
Final Fantasy XIII
Fallout: New Vegas
Red Dead Redemption
Zelda Wii

Seriously. LOOK AT THAT LIST.

Its way too early to call it GOTY although it will be on every nominee list.

Games like GT5, GoW3, Halo Reach, Galaxy 2, etc. will all contend for GOTY.

What happened to Bayonetta? I was convinced it was GOTY early last month.

ME2 came out too early, yes it will get some nominations, but just like Street Fighter which scored over 94 in Meta last year, Fall games always get the last hype thus the most votes.

Do we have a Kinky GOTY category?

It's to soon to say since we have alot of GOTY material waiting for the rest of this year. But this one is a strong candidate for sure.

Maybe. We should have this conversation when, you know, more than 5 games have been released this year.

we know what coming... what has a chance of beating it?  only a handful of games at the most.

Do you really think the market is that predictable and boring? I don't think anyone would have thought Arkham Asylum would be a GOTY contender back in early 2009, but it ended up being a spectacular game and a major contender. Just wait.

yeah... you are right as always.... "no not likely" and "thats impossible" are perfectly reasonable answers.  interesting that those voters didnt post.

Well I am a voter that voted for "that's impossible" and here's my reasoning. The game is amazing and obviousley critically acclaimed. But it is wayyyy to early in the year for GOTY to come out. Almost 70% of media outlets will not give this game GOTY simply based on the reason that it came out so long ago. Sadly, the media tends to vote for things that are fresh in their heads. This is very stupid and sad but it's true. It especially comes into play when you remember that games like Halo Reach, GT5, God of War, Final Fantasy, Alan Wake and possibly Last Guardian are going to be released this year.

Three great examples of this from last year: Killzone 2, GTA: China Town Wars and Street Fighter IV. All scored higher than 91 on Meta too.

Having played the game, my guess is that IGN will give it a 9. But we will see.

They gave VII, X, X-2, and XII 9.5s.  If they don't give it a 9.5 or better and it is as good as those which
Japanese gamers voting it the best game ever would indicate that it is, then there is something fishy about its score.

I can see a situation where the 360 version gets a 9.0 and the PS3 version a 10 though.

Zelda, Mario Galaxy 2, Other M, God Of War III, Final Fantasy XIII, COD 6, Heart Gold/Soul Silver

are all contenders in my eyes, lets have this talk again in December

I don't think it's likely. Usually GOTY winners are released close to the end of the year when the game is fresh in journalist's memories and the hype is still overwhelming.

I think it will surely get nominated but it won't win as much.

From what I've seen of previews and hands on with several games like God of War, GT5 and Heavy Rain and the early/Japanese reviews of FFXIII, I don't see what could beat it, though the early release could hurt it some.

My fingers are crossed for Halo: Reach being mind-blowing, but an FPS would have to iterate a WHOLE lot to top Mass Effect 2. Possibly Bioshock 2 or Fallout:New Vegas or Fable III based on the reception of previous installments?

I think Mass Effect 2 is fairly brilliant in terms of story-telling and engagement level.

But who knows? Maybe one of our new IP's will come out of nowhere and blow us away. That would be so great for gaming.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?
