Unfortunately, I can't remember whether my source was IGN or VGC but I'm sure it was 1 of them. They showed an official statement from Nintendo showing release dates of all 1st party efforts this year in the 3 major regions. I only have 5 mins of internet time left until further notice so I can't recheck my source now. Seriously.

And if it by some miracle did, they wouldn't announce that date now.

Oh, I wouldn't say that. I don't think games have to be fresh in your memory for them to count for GOTY material. I'm sure Mass Effect 2 will get tons of recognition 10 months from now, for example, when the time comes for GOTY 2010.

I think that Dec 31 is a placeholder date. But if it did, yes it could qualify, and it would probably win a few. For me, not a chance in H-E-Double Hockey Sticks would it win.
