You don't seem to be getting it. Eurogamer wouldn't have the same opinion of "epicness" were this game called GOW3.

There is a reason why companies pay money to color margarine yellow even though it doesn't change the taste any.

See, God of War is awesome.

DI copied God of War, but didn't meet the high standards of the series.

Hence DI got burned by reviewers..

I suppose the same could be said for Castlevania: Symphony of the Night or Shadow Complex being mere copies of Super Metroid. Metal Slug is nothing more than a Contra clone. Really though, what difference does it matter? It seems God of War fans should be the ones to enjoy this game, not trash it. It's like an extra dose and helping of the GOW franchise more or less. Why shun that? Do you really get enough GOW goodness that a little more feels like overkill? Hey I love God of War. It's my absolute favorite hack n slasher. If another team wants to make a game very inspired in design by God of War, then more power to them. I don't know if there are any plans to revisit God of War after the third, so at least there's a game with the same feel to it just in case this is it for the series.

No they're not, both of those games have certain sparks of originality in them using Super Metriod's gameplay formula.  For them to be "mere copies" they'd have to have much more in relation to Super Metriod then they do now.

what certain spark of originalty does Shadow Complex have? i've played all 3 games and i agree that symphony of the night is original it takes the metroid formula and does something new. but shadow complex is just basically super metroid with a different skin

for all i care they could release a GoW ripoff every month, if it has a new and interesting setting and a stylish presentation.

No DI got burned because it wasn't GOW despite being an exact copy. pretty much every review i've seen says something along the lines of "it copies everything from GOW yet for some reason isn't nearly as fun." You give people two identical wines, but change the bottles and they will report a dinstict difference in taste.

78 metascore isnt what I would call "lackluster reviews". In other words: I dont get the point of OP.

It's getting good reviews and is a must have for any die hard fan of the genre.

You're just a GoW fan. Nothing more and nothing less.

The point is, critical review in this case doesn't have shit to do with the quality of the game, but instead the perceived opinions of the people who are reviewing the game.

The game could be BETTER then GOW3 and it would still be reviewed worse because of it's branding issue.

Come on did you even read what you said, better then GOW.  Fact is theres no chance it be any where as good as GOW3.

OP is right.

Well certain weapons and gameplay variations help make it it's own and I don't see how it can be Super Metriod with a different skin when they're storylines are really far from being identical.

Well alot of the weapons, and armor upgrades are really similar, of course the story is different, but that's basically it.

meh..I'm still getting it, it will hold me off till God of War 3(well. that, WKC, SO4, and FFXIII)

I am gonna get the game, but only when its cheap...

What I'm saying is that I knew this game would not live upto its potential review wise because its copying a major franchise, and that would lead to obvious comparisions between that major franchise.

What the hell gives you the right to label me as "just a God of War fan" ?
