Forums - Sales - Marvelous Financial Reports - Interesting Comments about Wii and PSP Sales

Marvelous was quite frank in their financial reports saying that 3/4 of their Wii games lost money (Little King Story was the exception) and that 4/5 PSP games made them money.

It seems that Harvest Moon wasn't included in the count that Marvelous gave as they did not make the game.

A few sales blurbs.

Muramasa: The Demon Blade JP = 47,000

Arc Rise Fantasia JP = 45,000

Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga NA = 16,000

Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility EU = 57,000

Little King's Story:
JP = 26,000
EU = 67,000
NA = 37,000
Total = 130,000

Everything was taken from here. Here's a link to the actual Japanese financial statement.

Edit: Look at that PSP go! It's such a software beast!

LOST MONEY?!

thats hard to believe considering their games seem like low budget titles

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Yeah, I just read about this on gaf. I was surprised yet happy that LKS was the one to net them a profit.

I don't think many considered Arc Rise Fantasia to be low budget. I know those who have played said it has very high production values.

LKS had the least amount of sales in JPN though but it probably made money with oversea sales.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

@ saicho

That is what seems to have happened. LKS did pretty well in EU by comparison.

I don't think ARF or LKS were low budget, both were in development over a year, thoroughly voiced and both had pretty high profile musicians working on them. Then again, both also had like zero promotional budget, like all MMV games.

Muramasa's pretty clearly the lone "profitable" Wii game given it almost met expectations and Vanilla Ware being a pretty tiny, low budget dev. It's actually Vanilla Ware's 2nd best selling game.

OP left out the PSP figures too...

Valhalla Knights 2 Battle Stance (JP) 35k
Valhalla Knights 2 (EU) 3k
Hitman Reborn! Battle Arena 2 (JP) 41k
Half Minute Hero (JP) 70k

You wonder if some of these numbers will improve as time goes no -- adding nothing but value to the bottom line.

But it does point out that it takes a few million to make a game.

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Nothing will improve in Japan.  XSEED seems to have distribution issues and Rising Star's having similar problems in Europe.  LKS might move a little more in the west, but not much.

Muramasa's thankfully off to great American start though (35k in it's first 2 weeks) and I think ARF will do the same.  Marvelous should really drop XSEED asap.
