Forums - Gaming Discussion - Difference between video games and toys.

At a Nintendo developer’s roundtable event this evening in Los Angeles, a German journalist asked Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto if it would be more appropriate to call “Wii Music,” which lacks goals and points, a “toy” rather than a “video game.”Miyamoto replied tersely: “Yes, that’s right. And that’s why it’s more interesting than a video game.”

He made a distinction between toy and video game. Apparently miyamoto himself thinks that there is a difference between a toy and a video game.

I don't care what Miyamoto says in this case, a video game and video game console is a toy. Anyone who says otherwise is just afraid to admit they play with toys (except maybe Miyamoto, I don't know why he won't admit it).

well miyamoto is creative director senior managing director of a multi billion dollar company. i think he knows what he's talking about.

The difference between a toy and a videogame is that a videogame is worth the money.

toys are for entertaining kids and video games are challenging as well as entertaining and require skill

i dont know what you are trying to achieve with these toy threads, wii is as much gaming console as any of them, and they are all classified as toys, off course gaming consoles are different from your average toys, but they are still toys, apart from motion sensing wii is same as any other console before it.
