If sony was to stop selling the ps2 the 120 million people who own it would most likley go out and but a ps3 because they have trust in them...... whad u think?

Every PS2 sold is 1 PS3 or Xbox360 or Wii less so they need to stop make it.

I think that would be stupid. Sony needs to make money, and the PS2 is SCEI's big money maker, how else are they going to offset the losses caused by the PS3's initial investment?. It wouldn't be a bad idea to cut off PS2 support once the PS3 is completely profitable though...

I want it to die so the Wii would stop getting PS2 ports of common multiplatform games like Madden.

I want them to, but PS2 is still making alot of money for Sony so until they stop making good profit, they won't stop

It would have worked when all the PS3s had BC. Now it could prove to be problematic for them.

If Sony stopped selling the PS2, sales for all 3 consoles combined would probably bump up by ~10k per week or less.

A lot of people who are buying the PS2 are probably buying it for 2 reasons.

1) their PS2 broke
2) They missed out on the PS2 and decided to buy it for old games

the small percentage of people who are buying it as a first console, probably would move to a new system, but odds are it would be the Nintendo Wii, not the PS3, because someone who is considering spending ~$120 is not going to suddenly going to change their mind and buy a $400 machine that can't even play the PS2 games they were interested in.

Now, in terms of those 120m PS2 users, just because sony isn't selling their system any more is no reason for them to upgrade.

Sony will continue to sell the PS2, and it will minimally harm the PS3's userbase, if it harms it at all.

The way you say it makes it sound like a good idea for Sony to keep making it.  One less Wii?  If they can hurt the Wii and they make money, why not?  Granted they probably hurt themselves, but maybe it's a good sacrifice.....

that wouldn't be a good decision. they are making a profit of off the ps2. and as long are there is a demand for it and new games being made for it, they cant stop making them.
