"Gears of War budget is insane. I've heard upwards of 400 Million dollars"

We're talking about needing to sell like ~8m copies to make back profits.
Making this console exclusive was a brave move, and hopefully xbox owners support the game and it goes onto do so.

Western AAA budgets have gotten absurd, it's no wonder so many are struggling.

Making this a console exclusive when it cost that much to make is a hell of a risky move, but on the other hand, without exclusives your console business has no reason to exist.

Im book marking this. Gonna be entertaining to see the narative flip if this doesn't even make it to 1.5m unit sold in first month.

Remember people dogpiled on Marathon for selling 1.2m copies with a budget of 200m-250m base on rumours, lets see what will be the excuse for a 400m dollar game selling the same or less. Even if a miracle happens and it sells 5m copies its sill losing money.

This feels like you're already putting on your console warrior hat before the thread's even started.

What makes you think people will make excuses for Gears if it doesn't sell gangbusters?

Lets not do this.
No need to throw stones, we all live in glass houses man.
Just because Marathon flopped, there is no need to wish that on others.
Also E-Day looks alot better to me than Marathon, and I'm not a xbox guy (I'm on the other team).

You think there's no bias and changing narratives ever happened here before?

TBH you are most likely right, there won't be any excuses made for it.

The most likely thing that will happen is there won't be much dogpiling and discussion about it, and it will just be swept under the rug in no time.

I don't think there's any more bias against Sony than there is against Microsoft or Nintendo.

Every brand has its fans and its haters.

Im a PC guy, I sold all my PS library and went full PC since they decided to let show me there is no reason to own a PS and I can play all the same games without buying their console and charging me to play online on their ecosystem. Not about E-day looking better than marathon or being a ps or xbox guy. It's the constant narrative flip floping that I'm here for.

Is this surprising?

@twintail, Not really.... with AAA games these days you are basically in the 200-400m range.

God of War Ragnarök's was like ~200m, but I bet you that "Laufey" is higher than that as well.
Spiderman 2 was $315m.

Most big AAA games go above 200m (I think, not 100% sure).
