Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What do you want in a Switch 2?

Given the success of the Switch, I feel it is likely a Switch 2 will be Nintendo's next system. What are the main features, upgrades, improvements you want to see out of a next gen Switch?

Here's some ideas:

Redone online that brings Nintendo's online framework up to par with Microsoft and Sony. Like needing a mobile app to do player chat needs to go extinct. Friend codes need to permanently disappear in favor of usernames. A way to message friends to set up play sessions. Lots to do here. Also carry forward the Switch's retro gaming service so all the NES, SNES, etc games that are on Switch Online will be on Switch 2 Online from day 1.

Power-wise I'm thinking PS4 Pro level power. 1080p screen. 4k capable when docked. Hopefully a small enough gap from the other next gen systems to get more support from 3rd party graphically downgraded but still good AAA games than Switch.

Maybe take out so hardware that isn't being used to put that money into other parts. I'm thinking remove the IR thing in the right controller since I think only one minigame in 1-2 Switch ever used it. Remove the HD rumble because while it is cool it doesn't really make a ton of difference and I'm assuming there are extra hardware costs to put it in.

Other than that I just want a straight generation upgrade, everything the Switch has upgraded. Cram more battery duration in there, if that means it is slightly heavier and thicker I think that is fine. The other upgrades I'm thinking of are just things they could even implement with a premium version of the Switch which I'm guessing will be coming out at some point - no (or less) dead space on screen, better stand (though I've only used it a few times), much bigger hard drive so that getting a large SD card isn't an immediate requirement for owning the system.

I can't think of anything too interesting, basically just a straight generational upgrade to the already amazing Switch.

You all got any interesting ideas?

First off - I want a Switch 2. Not something else. Just improve on what is already there and maybe add something Nintendo-weird.
This is what Nintendo needs to do to succeed.

* More powerful device @ a reasonable pricepoint.
* Ergonomics for the Switch and a Pro Controller with,all the good stuf.
* Proper gamelog
* Folders
* Revamped E-shop
* Achievement system
* Better friend system
* Better online infrastructure
* Improved relationship with AAA-publishers

I think much of this could be done with the current Switch, but I think they might save these (if they do them at all) for next system

Dont set yourself up for dissapointment and expect PS4 PRO power in a handheld device in the near future at a good price..

^ that cannot be done with todays technology....

I think maybe you can get a Switch 2, thats around where the Base PS4 is (when docked).
That could probably be possible in 2021.

That would mean Switch 1 -> Switch 2, is a jump of x3-4 times in terms of power.

Some things I’d like that to me are very reasonable:

Voice chat
Text messaging
Folders
Backwards compatibility
Incremental power upgrade
More internal storage

And a stretch goal:

Nintendo Online comes with classic SEGA, SNK, and Atari titles

Re do the Joycons. Make the buttons bigger and make it not drift.

Larger screen.

Bigger internal memory

Backwards compatible to Switch games

Better playtime tracker

Pocky Lover Boy!

Better - In the sense of capability/power - Hardware
Backwards compatible to Switch games
Better software interface, geez the Switch is a mess compared to others.
Better online store - and also, whats up with the Switch's online store prices? Buying BOTW physical today costs me half of what the price is in the online store. Thats bananas.

Even wih the best current hardware that consumes about 100W while the Switch is at below 5W iirc. PS4 Pro performance is just unrealistic at this point - even just base PS4 performance would drain the battery way too fast right now.

It will be a lot more capable than a ps4 pro in cpu + ram and around 50% more powerfull for the docked gpu. Screen could either go 1080 or 1440p, of course docked will be up to 4k. The gap between the switch and ps4 already warrants all the support. Hardware isn't an issue for getting ports and next time the gap will be even smaller.

My, I can't even begin here. For starters, we're talking about something coming 3 years from now. Today's technology being irrelevant. A system like the switch could have released last month while already being more powerful than a ps4. And no, the gap between the switch and ps4 isn't 3-4x, more like 2-2.25.

I never understood why people think that a portable will be as powerful as x system... it's just not going to happen.

As for the switch 2... I'd of course like a jump in power as well. But, I differ for the rest than everyone. I see the switch's screen as an excellent one. I'd be more than happy to keep the screen and have the extra power go into games in every other area ASIDE from resolution.

Then I'd love proper chat system, better layout for the eshop, folders on the home screen, and custom backgrounds too.

I would also love it if Nintendo themselves had more variety for joycons outside of simple colors. I have the hori split pad pro and I absolutely love it. I'd love to see Nintendo do this too. A gamecube split pad? Sign me up. Theres a huge market there, I think.
