Forums - Nintendo Discussion - New Pokemon Sword/Shield mechanics revealed: Games to include 18 gyms

Tagged games:

From new revelations in GameInformer's newest issue:

  • HMs confirmed to not be in the game
  • Autosave is in the game, and on by default. Can be disabled in options.
  • EXP. Share is no longer toggleable, EXP and EVs will be shared to your whole party.
  • More than 1000 people working on the games, twice the staff of Sun/Moon
  • There will be 18 gyms in the game, split into a minor league and a major league (like the UK's soccer leagues).
    • The lineup of each changes depending on which version you play (Ghost is in the major league in Shield, Fighting takes its place in Sword)
    • Major league gyms will have tournaments and puzzles to beat (implying that minor league gyms will be traditional battle only gyms)
    • The idea is that every year the Galar league is being held, and some gyms may be relegated, or climb into the higher league.

This is the most hype news to come out regarding Sw/Sh so far imo. Feeling hype for the first time since the games were revealed.

It'd be fun if we had 2 potential Pokémon League to fight for, a minor one and the big major we're ultimately aiming for. This might mean also that the map we'll have a lot of cities/small towns to explore !

This sounds so freaking good. Why won’t Nintendo let me preload it on the eshop already. 18 gyms is crazy

Shut up and take my ....

Fancy hearing me on an amateur podcast with friends gushing over one of my favourite games? https://youtu.be/1I7JfMMxhf8

So much wrong with this sentence!

Anyways, the EXP share thing sounds a bit annoying. Isn't that one of the main reasons that recent Pokemon games have been too easy? Because all Pokemon always get full EXP from every battle with the EXP share? And now you can't even turn it off in order to make the game a bit more challenging? Why? I just hope they've re-introduced a hard mode or something to make up for the games being easier.

Bet Shiken that COD would outsell Battlefield in 2018. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=8749702

The problem isn't inherently with Exp. Share. Personally, I've always played the 3DS games with it off, because it made everything so much easier, but ultimately it's only an issue because the games are made to be easy in the first place. Most party-based RPGs have shared exp. nowadays, and it's fine because they're balanced with that in mind, and thus are made to be challenging like that. Exp. Share in the Pokémon games isn't well thought out at all... it basically triples the amount of exp. you get per battle, with no compensation made on the game's difficulty. It's basically an easy mode. That said, if there's a change in how the Exp. Share works mechanically, it could be fine.

I'd be more concerned with it automatically sharing EVs, as that could be a nightmare for creating competitive teams, but... I don't really care, I'm not playing this game anyway.

On another note, Persona 5 is great.
