Switch did better than I expected though. In particular it had more stock than I expected.
I'm curious by the way, was Switch particularly supply constrained in November in USA?

Its only Japan that I was hearing about it so probably not. But that does mean that Nintendo managed to ship over 1.5mil. Crazy! Now if they can improve Japan.

The original Xenoblade was a limited release at Gamestop so its sale were likely hindered by that. For a long time, new copies were going for $90. XC2 will likely outsell it due to exposure alone. There is also the fact that people gush about it which will get people interested in it. For instance, I've seen numerous threads on the Nintendo Switch Subreddit of people praising XC2 with some of those from people who had written the title off. It will likely sell 1 million worldwide and be a cult classic on the system. 2 million would be impressive.

Should be correct. NPD's last 5-week-January aligns with NRF and I see no reason why the two shouldn't always align.
