Companies that either are too lazy to make their own games like Valve or companies who make poor games like Sega seem to be the most keen on this sort of thing.

Well the fans will proberbly not make a better mario or zelda fan game.
Fans will most likely make a better Sonic game then Sega has been for the last few years :D

Also, Sega doesn't need to push any hardware sales (Sadly I was a huge fan lol)

Sega was never the good guy, but I guess they're so desperate now that they would accept anything for brand awareness.

And yet over the years Sega fans have been making better Sonic games than Sega themselves, kinda like admitting "yeah I'm crap at my job so I let my fans do it for me". Valve can be shit at it too, but they've endorsed them for years, Sega only caught on when it gave them good publicity.

It would be nice for Nintendo to let fans make a better Metroid game than they likely will, but at the same time I want fans to not inject ideas that isn't needed (like fans version of an OC as pictured in my sig gif, plenty of fandoms do this with their fave shows/movies and games. Sonic fandom is guilty of this by far).

Also Sega quality control still needs to be maintained, it will be a while till they can boast having a seal of approval for some time.

I see you Sega. Trying to get a decent Sonic game one way or another.

Given the way Sonic Boom was, I'm sure fans can recreate games that are better anyways
