Looking for advice - - - >

So, let me lay the scene.  My sister said her and some friends wanted to go to NYC pride... which is officially this Sunday.

There is nothing sexier than a bunch of half naked people parting in the streets so I was like hell yeah... lets go party.

Then Orlando happened and my sister starting having second thoughs.  She said she just didn't feel safe.  So, she called it off.

I felt some sort of way about this when I finally realized what actually went down.  Beyond the gun debate, it was clearly a hate crime and the intention was to make people feel unsafe expressing themselves in fear.

When I realized this, I started to get mad and was like... fuck it, I'm gonna go support these guys because I hate bullies and I don't belive in letting others scare you into not being yourself.  I explained this to my sister and at the same time I told her that I understood where she was coming from.   She called me back a few days later and said she would come if I went.

Talking to my coworker today, they told me there were afraid to fly because of terrorism... but isn't that the goal of terror attacks... to make people scared?

So, the question is: In the world we live in where danger is present and people are constantly trying to impose their beliefs on others and keep them scared what is the right approach?  Should you play it as safe as possible or do you retaliate against those who hate?  To Pride or Not to Pride

Should I go?

If you think standing against terrorism is worth the risk of death, than you answered your own question. When it comes to me, I will never let fear mongering stop me from doing what I want to do.

Yup.  Pretty much this.

To me basing your decisions in life fear is not living. You give up agency and joy due to all the hypothetical horrible things that can happen every day.

My suggestion is to go and enjoy yourself.

“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”

Summer comes before Autumn. Pride comes before the Fall.

I say pride your ass off!

Really, that was the action of our psychopath. Go and enjoy yourself.

Go enjoy your life. Things can go wrong at any time or place.

I would rather be gunned down with fellow gays and transgender people than the self-loathing family people I work with. The difference is, one place I have to be at, the other I want to be at. I am not going to waste my life being were I don't want to be with a chance of getting shot, then sit in fear instead of going out and actually living.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

Amazing quote

Go but make sure to be carrying the bigger gun.

Word.  I agree 100% It really seems obvious.  Reading Nymeria's quote:  I realized that most cases of xenophobia are also self imposed.  Fear is the enemy.

Even if you don't care about not letting fear make you decide what to do, there is no reason why the Orlando shooting should increase the chance of an attack at Pride. So if you weren't afraid of an attack before the Orlando shooting, there is no rational reason to be afraid now. Of course, the human mind isn't completely rational.

I say you should go!
