So, I see that the NX inquisition has soften its grip over the forums, so I'll make a speculative NX thread to celebrate it.
With Nintendo trying to recover as many 3rd party relations as it can (more collaborations this gen, sharing their IPs, support the developement of games...), it will be interesting to see which companies decide to support the system from the start, and how they continue to do that in the future. In my humble opinion, the ones more certain to work on the NX are the eastern developers that develop for handhelds (the NX will probably be the only dedicated handheld of the 9th gen, certain monopoly of that weak market), but time will tell.
The most probable thing to happen is that the system will get a lot of ports, either from the Vita or from the PS360 (at this point the handheld NX should be able to work with downgraded versions of those at the very least). Console ports from PS4/XBone/PC will be rarer, but that's not the question I want to ask.
The Nintendo userbase is known for not being very supportive of most 3rd party titles (whoever has the blame on that). But Nintendo needs 3rd parties to keep software droughts in check. My question is: which games could be quickly and cheaply ported to the NX (specify the format target, HH, HC or both) that could actually be successful enough to continue the franchise on the device? Per example, Ubisoft has more reasons to bring Rayman to the NX than Watch Dogs just by looking at the sales numbers. Please, indicate games and platform they would come from.
My pics for this are:
- Valkyria Chronicles (PS3/PC). With Fire Emblem proving that tactical JRPGs can sell well on Nintendo systems, Sega could bring this to the NX and expect a decent performance, specially because the game is becoming slowly more popular.
- Persona 4 Golden (Vita). I would put the whole Persona franchise here, but Persona 5 hasn't released on the PS3 yet, and after all, P4 is the most popular of the saga. Persona Q sold well, but for some reason Atlus didn't bring the PSP Personas to the 3DS, when it would have been quick and cheap to do so. I suppose the series still has a lot of ties with the PS brand, but with Q being a moderate success, I can see the Nintendo userbase giving the mainline series a shot.
-Kingdom Hearts (PS3). The KH games have sold well on Nintendo handhelds since the GBA, so it would be a natural step to bring the mainline games to a console that can run them.
-Final Fantasy. All of them have sold great on Nintendo systems, even the spinoffs have found decent success. And with Cloud in Smash, it would be weird if we don't see one of the HD remasters of FF (X-X2 from Vita, XIII from PS3...).
-Monster Hunter. This one is weird, because MH has been exclusive of Nintendo consoles all the 8th gen. I won't be surprised if that exclusivity ends and Capcom brings the series to the PS4, but it would be dumb to abandon the Nintendo fanbase that has supported all those games. We'll probably see a Monster Hunter X DeluXe on the NX at some point, for Capcom to test the waters on the new system. Remember, Monster Hunter sells better on handhelds.
-Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare (PS3-4/360-XBone/PC). With Splatoon proving that there is an audience for shooters on Nintendo platforms (even if it is cartoony shooters), it would be interesting to see this franchise give the NX a shot. But it will all depend of EA, and you all know how EA has behaved with Nintendo consoles this gen.
-Minecraft (Everything, even my toaster). Because Minecraft.
