Well, in this case is better make a comparation PS4 first year VS Wii first year.

In this thread, i talk about Second year. Any way, currently, PS4 is down down YOY in the US... PS4 is still at 400€? Ok, but even the Wii was 250€ ---> 250€ for the second year, and the Wii sales are increase by 70% YOY... how much can increase PS4? (EVEN WITH A PRICEDROP?????)

The price is not the only reason. The Wii was just a beasting.


Do we have European sales by the way? I know the Wii sales were crazy good.

I'm just saying you cannot deny how crazy impressive it is to outsell a console for a year costing 80% more.

PS4 is doing very well but the competition is not doing so great so looking at the marketshare alone doesn't tell the full story. The actual sales numbers for PS4 are good but not that impressive. Its clearly no where near as popular as the Wii was in its first few years.

Depend. If PS4 will outsell the Wii, and will break 60% marketshare, yes, we can say that the PS4 sales LIFETIME are more impressive.

Just, i don't think PS4 will hit the Wii sales, and even if will, i will be still more shocked by the 2008 Wii sales. because, expect DS, no one console have sold at this level. Not even  PS2.

PS2 didn't sell on that level but PS2 sold because of how amazing it was which is why it continued to keep selling.. and selling.. and selling.. and reaching 150 million in sales.

And sorry, i remember was for all month, but seem was for only a week... but still. PS4 at 199€.

well i see you people talking about lifetime sales as well... so i dont see why its so wrong for me to point out my opinion on that topic.

but if you want my opinion about the Wii selling more in its early years, well here it is:

yeah the Wii sold better but it doesnt impress me as much since:

1) it was a cheaper console.

2) it had the biggest gimmick gaming has ever seen.

3) thanks to the gimmick everyone (and i mean everyone) wanted to play with that thing, even my 67 year old uncles had a wii, even some (girl) friends of mine had a wii for all those dancing games (and they werent gamers, they just wanted the novelty).

the PS4 on the other side is a straight console with no new amazing gimmick that is also more expensive and appeals to just gamers.

Ps4 is behind Wii but I am almost sure will end up surpassing it or atleast a tie. Wii was way ahead of ps2 and all of a sudden it stopped selling. That wont happen to ps4. Also 399 > 250.

What were you expecting with this thread? To show Wii was the worst leader ever or that even when close to 50% marketshare Nintendo didn't get any support from 3rd parties?

So ignore the fact that from what I remember.....the Xbox One has more sales than the Xbox 360 in the same time spin......that the PS4 has more sales than the PS3 in the same time spin.
THE ONLY CONSOLE NOT OUTSELLING THEIR LAST GEN COUNTERPART IS THE WII U. Lol

That's if you even want to count the Wii U since they have near none 3rd party support...which makes it basically a bigger 3Ds.....Should be in its own catagory since there isn't competition for the biggest games of the year from 3rd party developers. While I do own a Wii U and I like it, it feels like a Nintendo legacy console since exclusives are basically all it has worth playing.

So considering its DIRECT competition is OUTSELLING it's previous gen.....the 50 percent, or as someone pointed out around 65 between the two competing consoles is pretty impressive considering both are ahead of its previous gen. Imo.
