Going thru my games I noticed that a HUGE part of my gaming collection is about 90% +  Japanese made. I am a Nintendo Fanatic so having majority of Japanese made games for my Ninty consoles was no surprise, but it was for my PS3 and PSP.

I presonally prefer Japanese Games more. Western games try to give that "Movie" feel to video games and sometimes I get impatient with them (I'm here to play a video game, think on how to pass ISH, and press buttons. Not watch a movie!). If I wanted to watch a movie, I'll just put one on!

An example of this is Deus Ex: Human Revolution. I watched like a 10 min intro to the game, and although it was super interesting, I finally was able to play, but then It wasn't more than 10 sec when I just walked up to Megan and pressed A, then you just go into another 7 min cutscene. Bayonetta 1 was similiar too. I've played and watched a little bit of the Last of Us and they seem to follow the same formula.

With Japanese Games I prefer playing through the majority of the game. Cinematics are cool, but I feel their should be more GAMEPLAY in a game than Cinematics.

I will say this, I never played any Western RPGs, so I don't know if it's the same formula.

Certainly Japanese games! I have always been a Nintendo/Sony console person due to their awesome Japanese games andI shall always continue to be just cause of that! And as more Japanese games come to PC, it will just get more and more epic

Also they have the best jiggle physics

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

It depends. I generally prefer japanese for their philosophy behind their games, but I despise when they rely on archaic, boring methods to create the game; on which then I would prefer western games.

Mix, but favorite Japan overall. Both have merits and issues.

Japanese. I feel that most Japanese games focus on gameplay more, whereas many Western devs (As you said) often focus on presentation too much.

Do you truly believe that western games have more cinematics than gameplay? Story is a big part of Deus Ex and The Last ogf Us  so it only makes sense that the first few minutes are spent on exposition, would you rather be thrown into the action wihout a clue of whats going on? Furthermore, you could always skip them if you wish. I recently played through Ground Zeroes and despite it having a lot of interesting cinematics the vast majority of my time was spent playing.

I used to prefer Japanese games when I played exclusively on consoles. Getting into PC gaming changed all that and I only stick with a few Japanese franchises now.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

Western easily for me. Besides the Souls series (which is Western inspired) I don't care for Japanese games much.

Modern Japanese. :)

Well most Japanese games know how to get you involved while learning how to play the game (A superb example of this is Super Metroid and Castlevania: SOTN). Also I rather read in gaming than watch movies (hence why I love Fire Emblem and Pokémon so much).

MGS has always had cutscenes but they tend to get you invovled in them. Also remember that MGS 5 is made by Hideo Kojima and Konami (Japanese developer). Hence why their was more gameplay than movies.

I also finished Bayonetta 1 and it was the same. I don't wish to skip them because I want to be involved in the story, but my beef is that they are way too long.

An example of a western company not like this however is Blizzard. Warcraft and Starcraft had about 2-7 minute cutscenes at most followed by HOURS of gameplay in their stages (this is why they are my favorite Western Developer). Hope that Activision doesn't influence them too much.

Jap games, of course. By far.

For me, Consoles = Jap games.

Occidental games are for pc.
