Smeags, your turn.

Almost bought this game. Now, I don't regret missing that sale.

Does that mean he likes it or that he will agree with me?

I never played the game but I read in one of his posts (or on Miiverse, not sure anymore) that he loves this game.

Hmmm VERY interesting review! A lot of the issue you mention isn't anywhere to be seen in others. I still wanna try it out, but I'll do so at a discount. Thx

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

A 6 from Rol means it is a must have for me.

I had a blast with it. I recommend it.

Yeah, the upgrade system goes useless fast and the game ended before I wanted it to end.

I'd give it an 8/10.

Shovel Knight is amazing. As soon as I beat it I immediately began playing again because it was so much fun. The whole knockback thing didn't bother me too much, I honestly don't remember dying a lot from falling into pits. It wasn't exactly Castlevania difficult. The bosses varied in quality I agree but I can't think of a single game where every single boss was memorable.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

I don't agree with you.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

I didn't notice that knockback stuff you mention but that's probably because I didn't give it too much thought when I was playing it.

I think the low point is a couple of stages that suck balls. Along with the boss fights that are nothing special. The upgrade system gets useless fast too.

But aside from those sucky stages the ones that I did like, I loved them and the music was pretty good too! I do agree with you that a new game plus is something I wouldn't do, the stages that suck... they suck hard. I remember the underwater one and the one that's on an airship as being the most sucky.

You'd be making a big mistake. It's one of the best games I've played in a while, really lets you relive some of your favorite NES magic.

I'll address his points as much as possible, as I can't be arsed to reread it.

1) The game is actually long if you're not freakishly good at games. It took me a few sittings, possibly 10 long sittings before finishing it. I would clock it at 20 hours. Then again, it depends how you choose to play it, which leads me to point 2.

2) You can beat the levels without using the checkpoints. Most of the time that's what I ended up doing, it was much more fun for me as an advanced gamer. You unlock achievements by doing that, but you also end up learning the levels by heart and feel rewarded when able to flawlessly complete a level.

3) The knockback only affects you if you're too quick to react. If you take your time and plan, most of the time you can avoid the knockback deaths. It's part of being a good player in the game. There are exceptions though where things move too fast or you are too limited to work around it on your first try, so for those I will agree with OP. They are low-occuring though.

4) In order to reclaim your money, you need to touch it in the game. If you fell in a pit, often it's impossible to get all 3 bags that scatter easily. The other thing is that if you die prior to reclaiming your chash, you lose it. There is a cheat around this but it's a cheat and I won't share it.

The music is of great quality, you will notice that since the first few levels and even the intro cutscene of the game.

Anyone complaining on price for this game must be taken with a grain of salt.

Better than NSMB (MSRP $60) imho, by far.

Nice avatar =)

As for your review OP, I appreciate the effort but I think it doesnt give the game justice. It's one of the best from 2014. Probably in my top 5 as we speak (I still have a few more games to play)

Flawless controllers, best original music, great level design and the best homage to the greatest era of console gaming and still they are able to keep it fresh. I am giving it a 9 out of 10.
