Reviews haven't been flattering but those who have purchased the game for the better part of it seem to be enjoying it a lot.

That raises another question - when people play the free ps+ version and disagree with the reviews from gaming sites, will it affect how these gamers view the journalists / sites?

Many people have bought this game knowing the bad scores the game received and issues it had. The rarest compliment came from a friend who only has a  box1 and he said the game is great (admittedly he is a Grid and PGR fan).

That usually does not happens, the public is always looking into the next game and anything that is not purchased close to launch people wait till the price is severily reduced. Christmas season could help a little as there are not many PS4 exclusives to check or purchase, but don't get your hopes too high.

The digital version only costs $50/30 pounds/40 euros, which is much cheaper than a new retail game, so digital sales should be good, perhaps even better than retail sales.

Not made a thread in ages, but with all the shenanigans around DriveClub, I thought this might be something interesting to discuss.

As we all are aware, Driveclub launch hasn't gone as planned and with 2 weeks passing and there still not being any sign of a ps+ version,  what is the likelihood of large number of gamers holding back from making a retail or psn purchase.

Myself and a few friends couldn't be bothered waiting and just took the plunge with the £35 ps+ edition. Although non of us regret it as it is an amazing racer, it has annoyed us not being able to play against each other and not getting our club points for all the races.

Retail for release week seems to be just over 170k for US and UK, but this doesn't include the online purchases.

Although retail sales may not reach large numbers, I think the game will sell well through ps+ due to its discounted price. We will probably hear sales figures from Sony once the problems have been sorted and sales reach a milestone. I think the game could sell a million by end of December if they sort the problems out by the end of October, what are your thoughts?

For what ist's worth I think you're right and I hope it reaches over 2 million lifetime.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

You may get surprised, but you can already find the game at a cheaper price, here is a link to amazon for 52 U$, new retail

I think DC is doing pretty well.

The game has great word of mouth (from those that have played it) and it seems to have gotten a lot more busy over the weekend. I'm dropping down the leader board at great speed instead of climbing like last week, and despite Evolution claiming servers should be accepting a lot more players, it has gotten worse again for me this week.

No free PS+ version and a good discount on digital ($50 vs $70 here) probably help as well. Although I think those who bought it instead of waiting would have converted to the full version anyway.

It's been a long time since a good track based racer and no other racers this fall (seems the crew is delayed?). Anyway those who buy it won't be disappointed. Just wish people would wait a bit before buying so I can get the online trophies :p

Does DC really have a Project Gotham (have you played it?) feel to it?...Though I love cars in real life, sim racers bore me to tears, I could use some old school arcade racer

I have played all the PGR games, and I'm more addicted to DC now than I ever was to PGR, which was great as well. It's the tracks that make DC so great, very well constructed and a joy to drive over and over. WIth 25 unique ones there's plenty of variety. PGR had very good city tracks, yet driving on DCs narrow winding mountain tracks adds a whole new layer of excitement.

The handling is much closer to PGR than a sim. DC does do all the individual tire, suspension, weight calculations giving it a realistic feel, yet it also turns up the grip and acceleration to give it the excitement of an arcade racer. It has a excellent difficulty curve, strarting of easy with the hot hatch cars, yet mastering the Venom GT hyper car takes all your concentration. And hitting the wrong bump at 370 km/h is not recommended, although spectacular :)

You have to brake before corners indicated by color coded flags along the tracks. You can also handbrake, power drift though corners which takes quite a bit of skill. (It's no ridge racer) Drift events are part of the campaign.

500K lifetime on retail

No way.

It will probably do about 200k first week. Lifetime will probably reach 1m.

Even Motorstorm Apocalypse, which launched with 20k, sold ~ 500k.

I think sales for Driveclub are going to drop a lot after first week. We'll see.

I've learned this year to ignore review from majot gaming sites.  They're so off from what me and my friends think is a good game for the price.

Also, if games like Velocity 2X gets 9/10 because it's only $15, should the PSN Plus version of Driveclub also be held to a different (lower) standard?

I'd call it a success if it reaches 1.5m lifetime considering the botched launch and delay

It's a bit annoying that the PS+ version is still not up yet...

Well, I think its sales are primarly due to a long wait for a Sony exclusive racer with amazing graphics. Its shortcomings in gameplay and/or content should affect sales after launch, perhaps, but one cannot be certain how great the thirst for many to get a racing game is.

most people who have bought the game disagree with the reviewers on gameplay and content. Everyone is complaining about it not working online.

EDIT: Well it's worked the last 2 days at least.

I´m interested in DC, I was checking out the thread on GAF and it seems most people who are playing agree the core gameplay is great, it´s just the current server problems and, correct me if I´m wrong here, lack of content (I think that´s what some are complaining about) so far that bring the game down.

Is DC currently low on content?..is it true?...it seems like the game will keep evolving over time, so it shouldn´t be an issue down the road (if it´s true in the first place, that is)

What about the AI?..is it 'fair'?
