Forums - Nintendo - I got a feeling: Smash Bros U in 2015, Zelda U in 2016

Since they moved to HD development, delays have become common for Nintendo.

Pikmin 3 was supposed to release in 2012 but didn't come out until 2013, Tropical Freeze was pushed back from 2013 to 2014, Xenoblade Chronicles X was pushed back from 2014 to 2015, etc.

With the recent delay of the 3DS version of Smash Bros, I have a bad feeling that the Wii U version will follow suit, and miss this holiday season in favour of a 2015 release. This of course would be severe blow for the Wii U; having both Mario Kart and Smash for the coming Christmas holidays represents perhaps it's last chance for long term relevancy in the marketplace.

Then there's Zelda; now that we know it's  open world, I can't see a game of that scope being ready before 2016 given Nintendo's obsession with not releasing a game until it's polished to a blinding sheen. Particularly seeing as we haven't even seen actual gameplay yet, just an in-engine cutscene. Skyward Sword was playable at E3 2010, but didn't come out until late 2011, and that was a far simpler game.

I think that this is sadly possible.

As you mentioned, a 2015 Smash release would be really bad for the WiiU holiday season.

The game was shown in detail at E3 and looks quiet advanced in development though. Let's hope it will make it in time...

I doubt it. Nintendo has no other holiday title.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.

Nintendo's E3 Digital Event showed SSB as "Holiday 2014." (Or was it "Winter 2014"?) So I seriously doubt that one. However, I can easily see Zelda being pushed back since Nintendo is terrible at having that series release on time.

Well, at E3 2013 Tropical Freeze was listed as a 2013 Holiday title...

Fixed.

My only backup was that it was, "too close to release for them to change it now!"... but now I have no backup for my argument. I dislike you for making it seem possible that SSB4 wouldn't release this year.

Although, that would be extremely stupid. Luckily (or un-luckily), Nintendo is good at that, so you could be right.

Smash is probably 2015, Zelda could be 2016 but I still hope for holidays 2015.
Even though it is open world I doubt it will go anywhere near the scope of a Skyrim. I expect the most confined open world ever or even some pseudo open world like Xenoblade.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Smash Bros I think will still release in 2014 considering how playable it was in the smash tourney but Zelda U has a good chance of 2016 though
