From GAF... so Double Helix won't work on KI anymore... a new dev will be announced soo.

Update: In a statement, a Microsoft spokesperson told Polygon that it will be working with a "new development partner" on Killer Instinct for Xbox One.

"We have thoroughly enjoyed working with Double Helix and wish them success in their next endeavor. We want all of our loyal fans to know that the Killer Instinct team at Microsoft is not changing and that the franchise will remain with Microsoft Studios. We remain dedicated to delivering a great experience and plan to announce our new development partner soon. We're excited about the future of this popular franchise."

Take that with a bit of salf because the source is Polygon but it was the reasonable turns of the events.

I wouldn't see this as a loss, it was a 3rd party exclusive. MS will get someone else to make new characters and updates, so no biggie.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

No big issue here. They have the IP and that's the most important point. They did well in choosing a developer for it, so I'm sure they'll find a competent team for updates and sequels.

3rd-party? The IP is first-party.

The developer was 3rd. So MS can easily get another one to take its place.

Hmmm. Am I the only one concerned?

KI on Xbox One is an awesome fighting game. I would have preferred MS bought DH and they continued the franchise.

Hopefully the team that remains had a large role in how it turned out.

I think what happened was DH technically didn't make the game. Microsoft took all the people they gathered togeter internally and sent them to DH to make the game.

They will either send those same people like Ken Lobb to another 3rd party studio, use one of their first party studios, or open a new studio for KI a dn future projects.

We've been talking about this already ut MSFT has said in every statement that the team isnt changing. The internal team is the same, just appears theyre moving to another studio to continue working on KI. This includes Rare members and the members they hired specifically to make KI. So in other words nothing really seems to be changing other than the name of the studio.

Im pretty sure some other those employees at DH will leave the studio and join a studio owned by microsoft just to continue working on the game.

I don't know how this will pan out. KI has been getting praise from the FGC. I don't get MS. This is the second time a developer that was working on exclusive Xbox software has been bought out from under them. Given their financial standing, it's a surprising trend.
