With the release of Sengoku Basara 4 in Japan today I though I would check out what its about. What I read confused me, it was described as a game similar to the Musou set in the same time as Samurai Warriors. So what really makes the franchises different? What seerates them enough that both can exist together harmoniously?

Also for any who have played Both what do you prefer?

Also please dont link videos to compare them for me, my internet is too slow to load YT right now =(

Around the Network

I've played both Basara 3 and SW 3 on Wii and Basara was better (still just an ok multiplayer timesink).

I prefer the combat system in Basara, because in classic Capcom tradition, it's way more flexible.

Samurai Warriors had more characters, but Basara's characters were more different between them.

Both have co-op during campaign mode.

Basara 3 has music from Shadow of the Colossus' composer and T's music.

Differences?

Basara is more over the top than SW (more comedy, Tadakatsu Honda is a mech, etc).

Samurai Warriors hass prettier girls and Basara has prettier boys, but you'll need an LBGTA (or something like that) member to confirm this.

I'm a veteran of both franchises, Basara used too be called devil kings until the recent one before this where they left the name the same.

Samurai Warriors has a more vast character selection and gives you much more freedom in battles as well as bigger battlefields to fight in.

Basara is more controlled and linear, you have hardly any generals on your team and the game feels very "silly"

They are both pretty solid, but Id pick Samurai Warriors. Koei has fined tuned there musou series down to a tee now, where as Basara has always been playing catch up.

I played both franchises and Basara has better combat system, altough the maps are always the same, so if you play say a couple of campaings you have seen it all.

In samurai warriors, the maps are repeated but there are far more, so you don't notice that right away, also it has a lot more of playable characters where as Sengoku Basara has a lot of NPC.

Nevertheless, I really like both franchises, even if they are a timesink multiplayer, each one has its own upsides and downsides.
