I played both franchises and Basara has better combat system, altough the maps are always the same, so if you play say a couple of campaings you have seen it all.
In samurai warriors, the maps are repeated but there are far more, so you don't notice that right away, also it has a lot more of playable characters where as Sengoku Basara has a lot of NPC.
Nevertheless, I really like both franchises, even if they are a timesink multiplayer, each one has its own upsides and downsides.
