Microsoft touts Xbox One "realism" in new ad

Latest advertisement for Microsoft's new system claims, "If it was any more real, it would be real."

by Eddie Makuch

Microsoft today launched a new Xbox One video advertisement on YouTube that touts the system's ability to deliver realistic graphics, but in a somewhat creepy way.

The video splices together Ryse: Son of Rome gameplay with footage of a man in his bathroom, who is frightened to discover he is bleeding, only to realize it's not real.

"If it was any more real, it would be real," the advertisement's narrator says.

The Xbox One launched in late November 2013 and has sold more than 3 million units so far.

Competitor Sony hasn't used any such freaky videos to promote the PlayStation 4, but gamers have probably not forgotten the creep way in which the company promoted the PlayStation 3 years earlier.

Great comments lol

Actually, the guy tried to kill himself because he realized he spent $560 for Ryse: Son of Rome."

They're right, life is often dull, boring and repetitive, just like Ryse."

I am Torgo, I take care of the place while the master is away.

"Hes the clown that makes the dark side fun.. Torgo!"

Ha.. i won my bet, but i wasnt around to gloat because im on a better forum!  See ya guys on Viz

Throwing shit on the wall and seeing what sticks marketing strategy. It couldnt hurt.

Have Microsoft and Sony swapped marketing departments? I mean really, "if it was any more real, it would be real"? That tagline is almost as bad as "beta tested in the future".

On a side note, did anybody else in the UK see the launch ad for the PlayStation 4 in The Sun newspaper?

Edit: Here is a link showing it: http://kotaku.com/the-suns-page-3-girl-was-the-playstation-4-1473979911

And I think only people from the UK will really understand this, but as a short explanation page three of The Sun usually features a topless model. Sony bought that spot instead and asked for Rosie's - who I presume is ficticious - forgiveness.

Talk about supplying ammunition for the enemy--I fully expect to see this used on Fox News as proof that gaming causes delusional behavior.

Also, you know, part of why I play videogames is so I don't get hurt in real life.

I wish I were skilled/cared enough to alter this; I'd change it to a PS4 commercial and edit the Ryse scenes to Flower scenes.

"Xbox, call the sanitarium."

Wow, this is even worse than the PS3's early marketing.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

My God!!! That is unbereavarble!!

It's like being in a .hack// or Sword Art Online nightmare. M$ is making it come true people!
