Nintendo could opt for Irrational games to make an exclusive for them or keep a specific game exclusive for them like How MS is paying EA to keep Titanfall away from Sony. Being that Nintendo bought Monolith who used to work with Square (which isn't very profitable), they should opt for a western dev who is big with consoles. A lot of major PC devs have already written off Nintendo for this gen including Epic and Bethesda. A one franchise exclusivity deal with EA could do the trick. Activision wont take the dive for sure and Ubisoft is sure as hell not making a new core IP for Nintendo any longer. Thats for sure. Nintendo would need to pay for it themselves. If they are willing to they could do it as long as there is no risk for the IP holders like SquareEnix, EA or Ubisoft. Taking a little risk will probably win back the good graces of these third parties and with a proper marketing campaign Nintendo could prove that these franchises belong with their crowd just as much as Mario or any other this gen. In fact they could end up being the bottom line. As Microsoft has proven, its all about marketing and perception. Nintendo is playing it cheap going with these niche Japanese developers. They might have classics on their hands but they will have low sales to boot because of the audience which has since shrunk (especially when exclusive to their platform)

Great OP but it will never happen under Iwata.

Nintendo have been winding down all western investments to focus exclusively on Japan and Japanese developers. I'm eagerly awaiting him coming out and blaming the West for poor Wii U and 3DS sales without any acknowledgement of the reason why that may be the case.

From 1990-2000. Nintendo of America had production and management autonomy from Japan. NOA basically culminated its own production team, along a few co-designers, and started funding and producing games with developers.

DMA Design: Uni Racers, Body Harvest (Nintendo dropped it in 1997, Midway took it)
Angel Studios: Ken Griffey Baseball, Buggie Boogie (canceled)
Bits Studios: Warlocked, Riqa (canceled)
Rare: Donkey Kong Country, Killer Instinct, Goldeneye 007, Perfect Dark
Software Creations: Ken Griffey Baseball, Tin Star
Silicon Knights: Eternal Darkness (N64 version)
Left Field Productions: Kobey Bryant in NBA Courtside, Excitebike 64
Looking Glass Studio: Mini Racers (canceled)
Mass Media: Star Craft 64
H20: Tetrisphere

Nintendo of America also procured the Ken Griffey and MLBPA license, NHL License, Kobe Bryant and NBA license, PGA license, Disney license, James Bond license, StarCraft license. Star Wars Episode I license. They were producing their own first-party games separate from Nintendo of Japan.

That all changed when Iwata transitioned from Global Marketing Chief to President. NOA Production was killed, and Nintendo of Japan's SPD Department took over all Western development (Star Fox Adventures, Geist, Eternal Darkness GC).

Henry Sterchi, Brian Ullrich, Ken Lobb, Ed Ridgeway, Jeff Hutt, Faran Thomason, and the whole crew left NOA to Microsoft and other developers. Since then, we've seen the Western model we have today. Western developers reporting directly to Japanese management, and pretty much making B/C sequels to Nintendo IPs.

Disney believes that out of sight creates demand for an IP.. Untill they find it a good time to reintroduce it.. For games it means removing every title from (digital) stores.. Wanted to pick up Deadpool or Spider-man shatter dimensions? Better find a second hand retail version cause you won't find it on Steam psn or xbl anymore..


Deadpool was a cheaply made game which was rushed out by Activision. Everyone knew the game was going to launch sub $60 before it launched because Activision knew it wasn't up to par (not Marvel). Activision is the fall of marvel IP, not Disney. If I was Disney i would try to keep the crap out of your mind as well to refresh your image on the brand.

Disney has handed off their control of gaming development of Luca Arts titles to EA. They've stepped down. Whatever happens in the next gen will be the truer intentions of Disney which we have yet to see.

Wow..that is eye opening. I knew Nintendo had issues with third parties, but damn. Iwata is really screwing the pooch.

No. Sony's fan-perceived "success" is actually solely the success of 3rd parties on their consoles, their own gaming division can't be called succesful. They're a far cry from Nintendo, Blizzard, Activision or Valve when it comes to success.

OT: No, just no. Nintendo is financially far more successful than Sony's or Microsoft's gaming divisions. They don't have to take a lesson from anybody.

Disney doesnt know what to do with videogames: Disney Infinity (internal developer/publisher,) Disney's Planes and Fantasia (external developer, self-publisher,) Deadpool (external developer and publisher, under a straight licensing contract,)  Lego Marvel superheroes (external developer/ external publisher parent company of DC) Star Wars Battlefront 3 (external developer/publisher, internal oversight.) .. Disney doesnt have a videogame strategy with their franchises.. They are shotgunning their way hurting gamers in the process who now can't buy some marvel games anymore digitally..

You're right about that. Disney doesn't know what they want, but they know they want the profit. Pull a Microsoft: Pay up and let everyone else worry about the creativity.
