Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Crytek Admits Microsoft Had To Rewrite Xbox One Code To Run Software

Tagged games:

"When we came into E3, we didn’t have a lot of our combat systems ready," ... "Admittedly we were focused more on the visual tech and the quality of what we were trying to deliver overall, and unfortunately there were certain things that people looked at, and especially when you haven’t really had a hands-on with it, you don’t really get the same sort of experience that we envisioned."

"We were wanting to show more depth of where the combat’s at, and more of how the combat system works. I think the multiplayer experience does a pretty good job of that."

"I don’t want to create a sob story here, but when you’re dealing with next-gen hardware -- I mean, seven years is an extended period, the technology has evolved a lot from the Xbox 360,"

"Microsoft has had to rewrite a lot of their code for the Xbox itself to be able to run this sort of software. So we’re still working on that, and it’s a mutual collaboration: we’re helping them try to decipher those pipelines."

"The trouble is that sometimes [showing it early] can take away from what we can potentially do in the game, and showing hands-on, this is what the people see. I don’t think we showed it in the best possible way."

Probably cause Rise was build as a 360 game.. having it running on the One MS had to helped out.. MS saved Crytek ass..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Doesn't Crytek make top notch PC ports?  So idk why they are trying to act surprised when they said the technology has evolved a lot...  Also when they say Microsoft had to rewrite their code for the Xbox, what does that mean?

Edit: Nvm forgot this started as a 360 game...

Wasn't it a Xbox 360 kinect game? I guess they had problems porting to Xbox 360. Nothing unusual.

Didn't know people have so much trouble porting Xbox 360 kinect games to the Xbox 360!

We can speculate. Thats all. :p

And this is why later games will look better, is not rocket science you know :P

maybe i understood it wrong but didn't he just say that xbox 360 is already 7 years on the market and technology evolved a lot and because of that microsoft had to rewrite a lot of their code?

like: "they can't simply use the same code they already have since years to run games like ryse on xbox one, with a new console you also have to rewrite a lot of the code you already have"

i didn't understand that as "they had to rewrite the code they had on xbox one some months ago to let games like ryse run on xbox one"

like with a new engine, you don't start from scratch but you rewrite a lot of the old code.

but yeah, no clue.
