Forums - Microsoft - Xbox One Could Offer Backwards Compatibility Through The Cloud

Backwards Compatibility would be great. Too bad you have to purchase the games again.

I am noob in this area. What is the recommended internet speed for onlive / ps4's gaikai / xbox one's potential cloud service? I am just curious.

As usual, a money grab. Don't blame either M$ or Sony, but it is a pain. If they can run PS360 games through the cloud, how can they not run an emulator right on the PS4/XB1? Because there is no Money in it for developer's and Sony/M$!

It drives up the costs on hardware.

Meh... Not interested in cloud based backwards compatibility. Not with Xbox One or PS4. Would rather have an emulator on the console. Won't be using this.

People should keep their older consoles. BC through the PS360 is a big deal since it's upscaling SD to HD, but when PS360 are already in HD, what's the big deal?   It's convenient having less consoles, but it's not needed.  Gaikai and the cloud will just eat away your bandwidth.

I wasn't very clear, I meant software emulation.

Needs hardware emulation along with software.  Your looking at an extra $50-$100 if they added them probably.

That and it complicates the design of the system. Yes in a perfect world we would have BC in all Next gen systems. I don't know anybody who would buy a PS4 specifically to play PS3 games, sure it would be a nice additional but it is what it is. Emulating a console takes a lot of horse power and it is made even more difficult when the architecture is different .

Cloud based bc is actually way more expensive for Sony to do than emulation. If it was just a money grab, they'd just do a repeat of PS2 digital games on ps3.
