Forums - Nintendo - EA Sports: Keep playing NFL 13 Wii U owners

Tagged games:

It's no big secret that Electronic Arts all but abandoned the Wii U a few months ago - a decision that went very public when an EA programmer went on a mult-tweet rant about Nintendo via Twitter.  While the game developer/publisher has no current plans to work on anything for Nintendo's 8-month-old gaming console, they say there's not looking to end support for those who play its previously-released games (Madden NFL 13 in specific) on it.

"We don't have any plans on turning off the off switch," states Thomas Singleton, a Producer at EA Sports.

Still, he says that those dedicated to playing games on the Wii U will be missing out.

"I think the Nintendo fans will probably miss out a little bit, but the Wii U version that we created last year was a great product and you can continue playing that product because it's not going anywhere - it's still there," commented Singleton.  "Whether or not we're shipping a new version?  We're not."

Madden NFL 13 for Wii U, which was a launch title for the console, sold more than 32,000 copies globally as of June 8, 2013, according to vgchartz.com.  The game was also released for Wii, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PlayStation Vita.

Madden NFL 25, the next edition of the franchise, is due for release onto Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this August and as a launch title for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Good god, only sold 32,000 copies....looks like Wii u owners are terrible at sports

They should say the same thing to Everyone. Its basically gonna be the same game.

Yer nice try EA. Kind of hard to play when the game isnt even out in my region. WORLD WIDE NUMBERS MY ASS.

the madden games are worse then COD when is come to release the exact same game ever year. at least with call of duty the campaign is different. why buy the same sports game every year?? updated rosters?

I doubt this will happen, but if they're not releasing the newest game on the Wii U, then it'd be nice if a few months after releasing the newer versions on the PS360, that they release an updated roster patch as either free or cheap DLC that Wii owners can download if they wanted to.

I say a few months after because obviously they want to make their sales with the new games being $60 each. After a few months there wouldn't be any sort of loss.

Maybe Wii U owners who own NFL 13 should go campaign about this on the EA forums. It shouldn't be difficult to patch in the new roster and if they sell it as cheap DLC, they'll still be making something off it.

Nintendo owners are more accustomed to getting the short end of the stick when it comes to sports games from EA.

Or they just don't like garbage games. ;)

I have no idea how anyone can even enjoy a sports game like that anyway.

Wait.. what ?
Well... I´ve been playing Fifa 13 on WiiU and although it uses Fifa 12 engine, the game is still good. The manager mode option and menu on the Gamepad is something quite interesting.
At least they´re constantly updating roosters. But I really don´t feel the need to buy a new soccer/basketball/football game every year. I just think that those EA series are too similar to each other. (apart from the soundtrack...).
