Prolific audio middleware harnesses new console's SHAPE sound technology, used in Forza 5.

Firelight Technologies has confirmed that its FMOD Studio tech is optimised for the newly announced Xbox One console.

The audio middleware utilises the Xbox One's 'Scalable Hardware Audio Processing Engine', and is available to authorised Xbox One developers to download for evaluation with immediate effect.

FMOD Studio is already being used in Turn 10's Forza 5, the Xbox One addition to the Forza Motorsport series.

“We’re thrilled to be working with Turn 10 on the Forza Motorsport franchise for Xbox One. They’re really pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in game audio.” said Raymond Biggs, lead developer for FMOD Studio. “They’re doing things in Forza Motorsport 5 that just weren’t possible with the last generation of consoles and audio tools. I know gamers are going to be blown away.”

Those interested in evaluating FMOD Studio for Xbox One can do so at the Firelight Tecnologies website.

FMOD joins Crytek's CryEngine 3 as well as DICE's Frostbite's 3.0 as recently announced solutions for Xbox One.

Awesome

The better my virtual V12s sound, the happier I am =)

Those are some words of praise right there. I don't know much about audio and things like that when it comes to comparisons, so is the Xbone doing or having something that the competition doesn't have and can have this generation?

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

Great. Simple, concise and to the point. Now I am just waiting for someone to verify or debunk just in case.

you should read more about the SHAPE chip at b3d. obviously you haven't by now.

Kinda funny I just started using Fmod in my direct x class. I don't know much about it honestly, but it seems to be a big deal lol.

Nice...though nothing out of the ordinary - both Wwise and FMOD will support, as usual, all consoles.
