Seeing as how Amazon has taken to trolling us about what appears to be Earthbound for Wii U (at the low, low price of $45), I can't help but wonder if Nintendo will continue the series without Itoi's involvement? More accurately, I just want to know what the heck is this Monolith Soft game, 'cause it makes me think of Earthbound.

Did we ever find out that the picture was definitely related to X? Or did people just assume that?

Not definitively. But it would be odd for Monolith Soft to be working on three major RPGs at once, since we already know that their 3DS title doesn't seem very... Mother-like.

Though we don't really know for sure which game any of the artwork is for, specifically.

I could be remembering wrong, but weren't they hiring recently? Maybe they're expanding. Or it's possible they're collaborating with someone else on the 3DS game, like whatever's left of Brownie Brown.

They've been hiring ever since 2010, I believe. Aggresivly expanding - probably as part of Nintendo's greater efforts to increase development capacity.
