Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Who would replace Iwata?

Tagged games:

Recently, there have been a few rumors about Satoru Iwata stepping down from being the head of Nintendo. Now, I'm not arguing that this is likely or unlikely. My question is, who would take his place?

Also, was Iwata the only real candidate to become president of Nintendo back in 2002? In retrospect, he seems like an odd choice.

But he just got demoted.

Other than being able to make memes, what HAS reggie done? I think they need someone from the west,  because that's where they are struggling .(Not Reggie )

No I don't like Reggie that much. I think he would be a poor choice. He is woefully incompetent.

I don't know who would be a good candidate. I would like someone who is more focused on gamers rather than casuals, but if they go with someone in the company, I doubt we will see that happen.

Ummm, no he didn't. Where are you taking this from? Iwata becoming CEO of Nintendo of America has not demoted reggie because reggie is and has always been president and COO of Nintendo of America.

Contrary to what most people seem to think, Nintendo is governed by a group of 6 leaders with different strengths. Iwata was chosen to lead that group. If he was to be replaced, it would be by someone who is Japanese and shares the Nintendo philosophy of affordable games and machines, but with some new ideas. They would likely have a games background and be internal.

People think that Nintendo would find some outside CEO to take over and then "everything would be fine" when in reality, it would be just the opposite. Said new person would likely be fired by the board simply for his/her ideas that conflict with the company. Loss-leader, hyper-realism and graphics over gameplay, voice acting out the ass...and many other conventions that tend to run companies into the ground. (Voice acting for games is pretty expensive and the fan backlash for having certain characters talk would be huge)

Getting someone from the West to take over the entire company wouldn't be a smart move either considering Japan is Nintendo's bread and butter and they have a general disdain for western products over there......just look at the 360.

Iwata was hand-picked by the grandson of the founder of the company (Yamauchi) to take over, so I'm guessing he would pick someone from within the company that shares the same ideas. Iwata stepping down probably wouldn't change too much to be honest. I have no clue who it would be (certainly not Reggie) since I don't know any of the names of the businessmen or what they are like.

Iwata won't be leaving until sometime after next April at the absolute earliest anyway, I'll worry about it IF it even becomes an issue.

I too think it will be internal, but i think they should look at a Western person as a replacement
