I think I have ranted about it before, it was a significant factor for me getting an Xbox and it was such a great game

Seriously, it showed just how enjoyable "old fashioned" jRPGs could be. It had great gameplay, a great story and great gameplay

I played it almost to death, just came short of getting all the achievements because of the stupid "find every treasure chest" one and I couldn't be bothered to do extra grinding, but it was one of the best games I have played this generation, not just of the genre

i played Lost Odyssey even though i dont own a xbox360. it was a good game, the story was very well written but i didnt get attached to the characters that much. the dream sequences were a nice tough but sometimes i just didnt have the patience to read all of them. it was good but it definitly wasnt the best i played and definitly not good enough to make me want to get a system only for it.

I totally understand your choice. I appreciate a good, complex story as much as the next person.

However, I still prefer Xenoblade mainly for gameplay reasons. I've never played a JRPG with more rewarding exploration (which suggests to me that there has never been one), and I can easily see evolution of the genre in many gameplay areas, especially the combat and questing. The presentation occasionally sometimes leaves something to be desired, but hey, considering that the game was probably made with a much smaller budget than Lost Odyssey, it's altogether very impressive.

Oh I don't question if XenoBlade is a good game, it's my #2 after Lost Odyssey, and I agree for the budget, impressive. However we hear Nintendo fans rant about XenoBlade all the time, but never hear 360 or JRPG fans rant about Lost Odyssey

it would just feel weird playing it on the 360.

Never played LO, but I played Blue Dragon that's from the same team(it was the game that made me buy a 360, btw). I found the gameplay to be very very good, the only problem of that game was the story, absolutely awful(even more when compared to the anime).

It's the reason why I bought a 360. It was my favorite JRPG this gen until Ni No Kuni released.

Do you think after you beat Ni No Kuni and the new game spark begins to wear away that Lost Odyssey will come back ontop?

Why is Ni No Kuni so good? It looks kinda like Blue Dragon to me which was meh.

Already finished Ni No, and I still like it more overall. LO had a better battle system and AI as it reminded me of old school Final Fantasy before the Square and Enix merger. But to be honest, I enjoyed the story of Ni No Kuni more and the score just seem to fit perfectly with it. It kinda was nostalgic and new to me at the same time. Ni No Kuni had it's depressing moments but nothing was more depressing then reading through Kaims dreams. Since there both exclusives, I'll probably just stick with the fact that they are the best JRPG's for there respective platforms imo.

i remember there being much more raving about Lost Odyssey closer to when it came out. Since then, there's been plenty of good, more recent competition to steal the spotlight. But as for why 360 fans specifically don't seem to show it as much love as it probably deserves... I'm not sure. One would think that 360 fans would love having such a major exclusive JRPG when they're not common on Microsoft's systems. Although, I think 360 might've became a major stronghold for Western RPGs to the point where some fans simply wouldn't care.

That's weird, because back in 2006-2007 the Xbox was a stronghold for japanese games, especially RPGs.

Yea, I also think a vast majority of 360 owners (like over 95% of them) are not JRPG fans.

I think I'm an odity for buying a 360 for JRPG's, Racing Sims, and Shooters in that order.

That's because Blue Dragon's Story was awful. Lost Odyssey is like Blue Dragon, except it has a really deep and good story. Give it a try, playing it reminded me of playing Final Fantasy X kinda.

What's a similar style game to Ni No Kuni? I was wondering because it I hear excellent things about this game, but I don't know what to make of it. Is it bad like Blue Dragon, or good like Dragon Quest VIII?

My PS3 broke a while back, I'm getting a replacement this fall (was waiting to hear if PS4 is BC), so I'll pick it up then.

It always seems to slip my mind along with Blue Dragon and Infinite Undiscovery (just took me 5 minutes to remember the name of this game). Nobody ever really talks about JRPGs on the 360. It does look cool though.
