So far into this new generation of game systems we have 3 new platforms that all have gotten off to rocky starts. The 3DS, Vita, and Wii U all had less than stellar launch periods. Is this a worrying trend for the industry or can another new console break the streak?

The PS4? The next Xbox? The Steambox? Ouya? Will any of these have a successful launch?

Obviously "successful" is a subjective term. For my purposes I would define a successful launch as a console that maintians healthy demand in its first few months with a least a few high quality games at launch and a steady stream of releases in the month afterwards. Thoughts?

apple/android has had several successful launches..

NeXbox and PS4 are going to eat at each other this holidays so I say no uness one or the other dominates the other which i see as doubtful since the NeXbox is a western console and PS4 is an eastern console. They will likely be similar to one another.

By your definition I would say no, because I doubt many systems will have a "steady stream" of games. It's just too tough to have a lot of software out early. But by my definition I think Wii U's launch was great, it's the post-launch period after Christmas that was terrible. I think PS4 and NextBox will also have good launches. The post-launch period will depend on the price of the system, the games available and continued support for PS360. From the sounds of things PS360 is getting games like AC4, COD, GTA and Destiny. Therefore, I think there will be little panic to upgrade for most users and the new systems, like the Wii U, will have weak demand until later in 2014. Wii U should pick up in mid 2013 if Nintendo fires out a bunch of AAA exclusive titles. $350+ is simply a lot to pay to play games you can already play.

I agree with Basil.
