Wii U Madden NFL 13 Was Built In Just Six Months

Posted Thu, 01 Nov 2012 | 17:00 GMT by Damien McFerran

Tremendous turnaround

We know that Madden NFL 13 on Wii U isn't going to offer all of the features seen in the 360 and PS3 editions of the game, but it's only now that the reason for this is becoming clear: the developers only had half a year to make the game.

The amazing dev schedule has been revealed by IGN, who paid EA Tiburon a visit to check out the game. To put that into context, six months would be considered a short development period for most iPhone titles - yet this is a HD game which makes use of an entirely new interface in the form of the Wii U GamePad.

Miraculous feats of programming aside, are you still interested in picking up Madden 13 in the knowledge that it lacks so much content that is present in the Sony and Microsoft versions?

EA's support for WiiU is token at best. They are mandated to release Madden on all consoles by their NFL agreement. Even knowing they had too make a WiiU edition they chose to wait until the eleventh hour to begin it.

They should bring back the Nintendo Seal of Quality just for this one game.

It is almost pointless that they made this version. Football season will be more than half over and no one will buy it. It will be looked at as a failure and we will have to listen to third parties do not sell for the rest of the generation.

Madden NFL 07 on Wii did pretty well for itself.   Hell, it even outsold Madden NFL 07 on PS3.

For a quick and cheap port, probably less than $750,000, will easily make back the money....they only have to sell about 30,000 units.

At least EA lost it's exclusive rights to the NCAA for 5 years. I am hoping 2K makes a NCAA Football game next year. I wish they lost their NFL exclusive rights when the deal comes up in 2014. The only thing I know is that 2K usually makes better sports games than EA when given the chance (2K owns the NBA even without exclusive rights).

That actually never had anything to do with game quality.  The seal was given after Nintendo tested products to make sure they worked properly with Nintendo hardware.   Think of the UL label from the Underwriters Laboratories.

Doesn't EA suck so hard that even they themselves know it? They have canned NBA Live for how many years in a row now?

"After the release of NBA Live 10, EA attempted to retool the series under a new name with NBA Elite 11. However, the game was met with bad publicity and development problems before release and was cancelled. In November 2010, development of the franchise was moved from EA Canada studio to Florida-based Tiburon studio. It was eventually announced that the series' next installment would be released in Fall 2012 and would return to the NBA Live name,[1] however on September 27, 2012 EA announced they would cancel the release"

nope. They should of not bothered, its only going to give it a bad rep on the new console. EA had dev kits way longer than 6 months, so this is just EA not caring about the franchise on Nintendo.

Madden fans, should wait for next year. That will be fully featured and hopefully take advantage of dual gamepads (very important imo for this type of game).

i think they made the port in a month and the other 5 months went on vacation

So I take it that the game will even play worse than the two teams featured in the photo in the OP, right?
