"DUST 514 is a PS3-exclusive first-person shooter with intense infantry combat augmented by powerful vehicles. Uniquely, it is set in, and connected to, the player-driven MMO universe of EVE Online™.

Dust 514, Eve’s conjoined twin, will feature a PvE mode. Players will band together with other mercs, accepting missions to blow up robots. This we know. But we haven’t seen anything of it yet. Dust’s open beta, which launches today, doesn’t include it - and if anybody at CCP knows when it's coming, they're not telling.

Which is a shame, because it looks like a barrel of chrome laughs in this latest trailer.

Plenty of what the trailer alludes to - running corporations from the ground, orbital strikes - will be included in the beta, and a shared economy will be implemented gradually in the coming months. But Dust isn’t yet the game it aims to be. Indeed, some of CCP's planned updates will be years in the making.

“We are not saying we have delivered everything [that Dust will be] when it has come out,” CCP’s resident economist Dr Eyjolfur Gudmundsson told our Jules in Iceland. “This is the first step. It took us 10 years to get Eve to where Eve is today. This is the first step on a journey of Eve and Dust together. There will be a second decade of development. Stuff will be added consistently on an expansion-based basis.”

But that’s the future. What about now? Will you be jumping into Dust’s open beta?

Here I present one of the official movie from inside the beta and it gives a thorough explanation of everything. (that I can think of)

by the way I'm in the beta and called down my first orbital strike with a player from EVE Online. It was badass pwnding some punks!

I played this game for a few hours and i just thought it was an average shooter at best. Mechanics felt sluggish and slow. Also the game speed was to slow for a shooter i know its meant to be more tactical with huge maps but still to slow for me.

Thanks for the Vid. Besides the promo thing they did for... E3 I think it was, it's been kinda hard to get any info/see any gameplay of this game.

From that video and what various people have been saying, it does seem to be a bit on the slow side. That could actually be a very good thing if executed properly and made a lot more tactical.

I'll be following this game with interest in any case.

Considering that it is a beta, it is understandable that it may seem sluggish. Overall I prefer this style of tactical shooter than a quick pick up and play fps.
