Buy virtual goods = making a game play slow so it makes the people want to advance faster and the only way to do that is to buy their stupid shit in game, or it gives the ones that spend money an unfair advantage...

Sounds exactly what I want to spend my money on.  Hmm I suck at this game so I'll just put some money down.  Oh look at that I got this bad ass weapon that can kill you in one shot.  Amazing skills!

I am just trying to point out how shitty free to play games are (sure not all are but you can't get rid of the cheap factor once you start introducing items for cash, reminds me of how stupid the virtual goods in Diablo 3 idea is).  It would be like you losing your queen in a chess match but putting down 5 dollars will allow the queen back on the board.  Basically, I see little to no skill in most of these games based on the cheap factor.

Just because I can bang a couple notes out on a piano doesn't make me a piano player, these people arnt gamers!

My definition of a gamer is not someone who plays free to play games for an hour a month. A gamer plays an hour+ per DAY!!

Only 56 million gamers in 2008 though? Are they saying the majority of video game system owners had at least two of these: PS2, PS3, 360, Wii, DS, PSP?

Maybe it's just because of my experience, but people seem to buy Sony systems to play DVDs, Blue Rays, and the like as often as to play games. Remember, the PS2 and PS3 were the cheapest ways to play their respective media for a while.

As for the Wii and DS... we know that they're just sitting in closets collecting dust.

LoL at the prejudice in this thread... People seem to jealous because their favorite console isn't the center of the universe.

Around the Network

Ps2 : 47 M
DS : 50M
360 : 33M
Wii : 38M
Ps3 : 20M

US has tons of gamers.

It's bizarre, isn't it? You rarely see this kind of sneering elitism from other entertainment enthusiasts.

"Just because they can turn on a TV doesn't make them TV watchers. Those people aren't real TV watchers!"

"The worst part about these reviews is they are [subjective]--and their scores often depend on how drunk you got the media at a Street Fighter event."  — Mona Hamilton, Capcom Senior VP of Marketing

Wow, and I thought I was a gamer. Thank you for opening my eyes.

So then to make the article true they are game players. They may not be gamers in the traditional sense, but they still play games.
What is it that you would all call these people who are playing these games if they are not gamers?

People that play games not very often.

You and me and everyone else do things in our day to day lives, just because we can fix a leaky tap doesn't make us plumbers.

I wonder how many of them are women.....?
