Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Am I wrong, or MK7 has a couple of minor but annoying and unexplainable lacks ?

Tagged games:

Hello everyone. Have you noticed the option list in local mutilplayer mode has got thinner?

To explain, me and my friends liked to play long 32 tracks championships for 2 reasons: 1st As anyone we like long matches. 2nd On a long championship bad luck tends to compensate with good luck so, in the end, it's a fair competition. Why MK7 doesn't let you set how may races you want play? Is this a feature you have to unlock or simply it isn't there? In the 2nd case it's a bit disappointing, expecially considering it won't cost any effort for the developer to add something this simple. In MK64 and MKDD you don't have this option either but, at least, you can do it "manually" since the score does not reset every 4 races, in MK7 it's not the case.

Another thing, in MKDS and MKWii you can chosse both the race mode (50cc,100cc,150cc,Mirror) and the CPU level (easy/hard). Then why in MK7 we get a downgrade instead of an upgrade? Or am I missing something? On MKDS I used to play with normal CPU level in multiplayer, on MK Wii I used to play on normal or hard depending on who was my opponent. In MK7 in forced to chooce between dumb AI on lame 50cc, or cool 150cc with hard AI, interferring too much imo with actual players (expecially in a 4 race cup where a bad position can be decisive). Even in this case, it would be that hard for the developer to add this feature? i don't think so.

Aside from this two annoying lacks I wanted to point out, I'm really enjoying the game. The handling is arguably the best in series, the tracks are also some of the best, the online is better than ever.

I totally agree with you about the ability to race entire cups online. I find myself playing several races and having varying degrees of success. I would LOVE the option to do an entire cup--maybe not 32 tracks (sometimes I need to quit or use the bathroom or something) but going through four or five tracks seems about right.

I don't remember ever choosing the AI in a MK game, to be honest. I'm gonna have to fire up MKWii and MKDS today to see for sure.

And now, my personal gripes:
-I want to be able to design my own decal like Mario Kart DS. I used to love seeing the kind of artwork people came up with in that game.
-I want to be able to see who I'm racing, while I'm racing. Put their name over the character's head or on the bottom screen or something. I don't like waiting until after the race to find out that one of the three Yoshi's I was trying to beat wasn't my friend because he quit the game!
-So many cool characters from the past are missing.
-I lose points sometimes for having a bad connection. I wish there was some way for the system to know that I got booted out for a bad connection and not because I turned the system off, flipped the wireless switch, or closed the system. Doesn't seem fair for me to be penalized for something beyond my control.
-Where's my feather? It's been gone for ages but I still want the feather back! It was a life saving power-up and a key to many shortcuts in the older game.

Still great fun, though.

What did the feather do? @OP, choosing the difficulty in terms of easy, normal or hard refers to battles and not races in ALL the Mario Kart games. Choosing the type of race in terms of 50cc to 150cc is how you choose the AI's difficulty during races.

No, you are absolutely right about older MK games, on MKDS I'm not sure, since I havent played local multiplayer in a long time but in MKWii the difference between difficult levels is evident.

Am I the only one that wants voice chat? The online works great and almost no lag but why cant I talk trash to other players?

Thank you Nintendo for not putting in voice chat.

Oh, the feather was only in MK1.  It let you jump really high.  It saved your ass in battle mode when somebody had you in their sites.  You could just hop over a wall or leap their projectile.  In races, you could hop over sections of the track and make your own shortcuts.  In fact, some tracks had secret routes that were only accessible via the feather.  I want to jump red shell, fireballs, and Bullet Bills.  It would be a good item for the first place racer to have.

Cool! Good luck jumping that blue shell though!
