I was attacked by a bear when camping once...two shots to the head and that sucker was down instantly...tis a shame I didn't really want to kill her.

Were you allowed to take the bear home with you and use it? I guess for meat and a carpet or something? I have never had bear meat.


No, I let the owner of the camping ground keep it, apparently that bear was becoming a hassle but his wife didn't let him go out and hunt it down, so I did him a favor LOL

Do you itch the bites the spread finger method or do you just say screw it and scratch till it bleeds? Or just leave it alone after all this time. When I was in afghanistan I smoked to blow the smoke on the big swarms of them to keep them from killing me!

I just rub them once in a while...but in general I leave them alone.

Afganistan has swarms of mosquitoes? I did not know that.

But isn't Afganistan more desert like? Mosquitoes need still water (ponds and marshes) to reproduce.

Well, after having lived 10 years in Venezuela right on the borders of the amazon forest, I've got my few share of weird animal encounters:

- Got bitten twice by fruit bats and had to take a shot against rabies.
- Had a close encounter with both a black widow and a brown recluse spider.
- Got stung more times than I care to count by cicada killer wasps.
- For four months we had an 6 meter long, 65 cm wide anaconda living in a tree in our backyard.
- I used to keep a very big cane toad as a pet back when I was 7.
- At the same time, I also had a very big pet Iguana.
