Sony's head-mounted 3D visor is real, HMZ-T1 arrives in Japan November 11th

Remember that crazy wearable 3D display concept Sony was showing off at CES 2011? Turns out the company is actually going to make it, and the HMZ-T1 is scheduled to be released in Japan on November 11th. While the design has changed slightly since we first laid our eyes, and heads, on it, the specs appear to be the same, with two 1280x720 0.7-inch OLED panels mounted in front of each eye giving the wearer an experience similar to viewing a 750-inch screen from 20m away, as well as 5.1 surround sound from headphones integrated into the Head Mounted Display (HMD). You can see the helmet above, as well as the processor unit (complete with HDMI input and output, so you can take off the helmet and watch on TV) that it must remain tethered to. Pricing is expected to be 60,000 yen ($783 US). Check out the press release and our hands-on video from CES after the break and decide if living out a Geordi La Forge-style fantasy is worth it.

Now just add gyroscopes for tracking subtle head movement and you've fulfilled my fantasy.

It might sell more units than the Virtual Boy but that isn't saying much. At that price I don't see too many consumers lining up for that.

Just like you can't compare your modern smartTV to some good old black and white box. Right.

Well genius explain to me how you can?

Since one was a dedicated video game system, and the other is a 3d tv with surround sound headset that you wear on your head.  That you can use it for anything.

Thats like saying you can compare a pair of Oakley sunglasses with my Samsung active 3d glasses.

I tried something like this at Fan Expo, it might actually had been the same thing but they look different. I will say it was a weird device. Like the image was 3D, but everything was so tiny. But it did this crazy dual setup where a guy was playing Killzone on a T.V. and his game was being played into the glasses. I wouldn't use these things yet though, image was way to small.

Well, I guess it's an option if you can't afford a big 3DTV and surround system. Not many people are gonna buy this, but I imagine Sony knows that and they're making good profits on each unit sold.
