Forums - Gaming Discussion - The longer I don't play a game, the better I get at it?

Tagged games:

For some reason everytime I leave a game alone for a while, I get better at it, I don't know why. I started playing Mkwii again after like 3 months, and I decided to do a few practice GP's before the Official Mkwii Vgchartz Tournament ( Here's a link if you're interested in joining. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=91543&page=1# )

Also I haven't played Uncharted 2 for about week and a half and I haven't become any worse. I'm actually a little better. It's kinda weird. What do you guys think anyways?

I understand where you are coming from, sometimes if I'm struggling with a game, I find it's best to go away for a while before coming back.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

not me i just find new ways to play

wel  i'm actualy having that problem with brutal legend right now

Your kind of right with your analysis.

If you play a game quite often and want to get better at it taking a 2-4 week break does wonders. I did that with Halo 3 and Guitar Hero/Rock Band games and I would get noticeably better.

you might have left the game but your brain was still analyzing your play style and the mistake you were making so when you got back to it you were making less mistake and playing more efficiently or maybe you just stop using drugs while playing??

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

LOL. Yeah I can definitely see mistakes in how i used to play on mkwii. I just beat a lot of my previous records. I see now that I have become a lot sharper and I also drift a lot more.

EDIT: Also, I used to have problems getting 2 star rank on 150cc, and just now I got 3 star rank!

As chapset said, your brain continues to analyze, subconsciously, your experiences. Especially when you sleep. It's not limited to video games, of course. School work, physical skills, anything and everything you do. When you are trying to improve yourself, you will actually continue to improve even after you've put it down.

Also stepping away from something can be refreshing. Gives you a chance to clear your mind, and when you come back you're more focused and able to see things that you couldn't before.

It's weird because as soon as you (hackles) left my party I began to do much better. I also seem to do well against the more experienced players. I also go through these phases where I'm unstoppable or crap.

To also note I'm leading the Official Mario Kart Wii GP League (this is to hackles) despite taking a break from it for a few weeks.

I actually agree with you. Sometimes I play a game to death and get stuck in a certain area. i get frustrated and then stop playing. After a week or so if I come back to it then it seems like I get through the problem area easily and play much better. I have wondered why this is. My analysis is that it has something to do with relaxing your brain and stop a repetative bad behavior. When coming back to the game I tend to have a somewhat different outlook, and maybe try something slighly different, or my focus will maybe more on aspect "B" rather than more focus of aspect "A" in a situation.
I have actually even noticed that on FPS games like COD multiplayer. Sometimes when playing multiplayer I start getting into a rut and doing poorly. Then I stop playing for a few days. When I come back to it I feel like I'm better, more confidence, and refreshed.

Thats my take on it.
