Forums - Nintendo Discussion - How many players could WiiU support?

Alright throughout Nintendo's press conference I was wondering. With each player having their own screen how many players could a single unit support. I don't know how much proccessing power the console needs to output 1080p visuals to each controller does someone else have a guess? But with each controller having its own screen the console could potentially support 8-players or maybe even more.

I noticed Nintendo never mentioned this. Infact Nintendo didn't even say four players but that is a given. But could Nintendo revolutionalize multiplayer again by offering 8 player local gameplay? It would be awsome to have a ton of friends over and all play together like a LAN party but all on the single system.

So what do you think is 8-player a possibility? Could WiiU handle that? If so would you want to see 8 player support in games? Would you want to have LAN like parties at your house with 8 of your friends? Infact what if the console could handle even more then 8 players wouldn't that be awsome too?

does each screen show 1080?

but yea i was wondering this too.

Recall the sony conference and thier 3d tv and how they boasted about with these glasses you can have your own screen with splitscreen for 2 player

If this could support 4, or hell you said 8. you could have 4-8 player FPS games with each person having own screen, and then have the main tv be like a cinematic movie type of camera following and looking randomly in on stuff going on in game.  like it zooms in an shows fire fights going on and so on

Nintendo has a demo video up on their E3 site, that showed 6 people playing "Chase Mii" at once. 1 player used the Wii U's screen controller, while the four other players used wii remotes.

don't know how expensive these controllers are, but was hoping for more than ONE one of these controllers to be usable at once.

I'm hoping for the same thing. The only footage I've seen shows only 1 person playing with the "U-screen" or whatever they'll actually call it. It would be cool if everyone had their own seperate screens for multiplayer games.

yea no kidding.  i mean take smash.  NO more zooming super far out so that you can all see.  sure the tv can still do that, but your own screen can be zoomed in nice.

for fps, no more split screen.  and so on

What about the 3DS? I read that the next Smash Bros. is coming to Wii U and 3DS, and that there might be some connectivity between the two games. what if you could use a 3DS as a controller for Wii U?

I don't know if more than one Wii U tablet can be used at a time, but I do know the reason Chase Mii was being demoed that way was to show off a few things about the way that game is designed. The guy with the Wii U tablet is the guy everyone else has to catch, so they can't have access to the map on the controller that he has. They have to find him on the TV screen.

Well, I'm interested to know this. Actually, I gotta say I'm worried about this subject.

Maybe this is obvious and I'm getting slow today. But 1 + 4 =/= 6
