Forums - General - In the future could HUMANS fall in LOVE with ANDROIDS?

Before we move further by "Love" I mean the  "Romantic" one for this argument.....If you wish you can go into stuff like adopting robot "children" like we saw in the movie called AI

Say we're years in the future right now and Androids have been made.

As humans we use Androids on a big scale to help with day to day things as our servants/slaves/maids/barkeepers/barmaids and so on, these Androids were designed to mimic human behaviour and be very similar to us. Androids were built in a way so that they have a "personality" and can soak up stuff that goes around them so that they know the latest trends and so on.

In this way its possible for androids across the world to gain different personalities based on their surroundings. It is also possible for androids to have fake sexual organs.

Answer the following questions please from your own point of view:

1. In a world like that could you ever fall in love with an Android?

2. Would you always feel they have a "fake" personality based on trying to adjust to the new trends?

3. Would you always feel they have been "programmed" to act in this way?

4. Would you be afraid of what your "human" friends/families will think?

5. Would you regret not being able to have a child?

6. How will you make a difference between whats "real" and what isn't? Because we are all also run on a genetic code, the DNA with the 4 major bases (ATGC). Similarly these androids will be running on a code of zero's and one's...

7. In the future do you think this could actually become a serious ethical issue? By the future we mean possibly several centuries in the future......

________

I'll answer the questions myself below!

Obviously our point of view on these things may have changed by the time such androids are available, possibly a century or two in the future. We'll know so much more about or body and many more things!

Yes, of course.

Humans fall in love with imaginary, digital characters, what you're saying is quite easy. I'm sure you've heard of the guy who married Nene from Love Plus. It's a girl from dating sim game on the DS.

Now, as far as myself, I don't think I'll fall for an android anytime soon.

If they look like Daryl Hannah in Blade Runner? Yes.

If they act like Daryl Hannah does in real life? No.

Also, I knew who made this topic JUST by LOOKING at the TITLE.

I don't think I would fall in love with one but I am sure there are will be people that do.  There are people that fall in love with manikins already.  Giving them the ability to speak / perform actions would only ensure more desperate people would use them as "girlfriends" or "boyfriends".

How can you be in love with something that doesn't love you back? Seems shallow to me.

1. Right now I can't say. But our opinions at large and how we view things may change over the next century or two so maybe I will feel its something that is not wrong!!

2. I dunno, don't we humans do the same? We are all so easily influenced by other people and opinions of others. We love to take part in new trends, and corporations make money out of this! I don't know if I think the android will have a "fake" personality when so many humans display a fake personality too.

3. I guess I will but then we also have an underlying genetic code, we are also programmed. In our case Evolution has acted as the programmer thats made our programme more efficient. But still the thought this think I "love" has been made by humans may eat me alive!

4. Yeah definetely. People were killed many centuries ago for having "inter-caste or inter-class" marriages.....the outrage a Human-Android union or marriage would have would be massive

5. Another bad point yeah! Being able to have no children would be a big turn off for everyone!

6. Its a difficult question to answer. But in the end something has been made naturally....thats us and something is unatural, androids. But I dunno.....if we look at the base of things we'll both be programmed to show these emotions!

7. I think it could become an ethical issue in the future unless androids aren't made in a human form at all. Perhaps this is something that should be considered.

You program em to love you back.

What can I say, it makes me laugh.

This happens all the time. Look at the fascination with celebrities and musicians. People love and adore them, but the love isn't reciprocal.

Remember the android is made to simulate human behavour

It will be able to love you back.

But it will never be "true love" if thats what you mean!

but perhaps 2 centuries in the future your opinion on that would be different?
