Forums - Microsoft - Harmonix: Kinect can achieve true 1:1

MTV/Harmonix has given its view on the debate surrounding Kinect's supposed latency - claiming that the Microsoft device can achieve true 1:1 tracking.

The studio has created Dance Central for the device - a title CVG found to be impressively responsive (if excruciating) during a recent playthrough.

Early reports have pointed to fellow motion control PlayStation Move achieving closer to 1:1 tracking, with Kinect slightly less reponsive.

However, MTV/Harmonix project lead Kasoon Crooker told the latest issue of Edge magazine:

"Dance Central actually is 1:1. You're dancing, in realtime, with the character, following his or her movements as if you're in a mirror.

"If you perform a move correctly, the character's body lights up and your surroundings change. If you perform a move incorrectly, the character will turn red."

The quotes come as part of Edge 218's ten-page Kinect spectacular. The new magazine is with subscribers now and will be in stores tomorrow.

So hopefully there goes that debate.

Uhu, we noticed that at E3 *rolls eyes*

I'm quite sure it can achieve it, but don't claim your own title has it, when nothing so far has shown that it has.

I predict 1 positive post to every 10 negative posts.

OT: I'm sure KINECT can have true 1:1 motion tracking....maybe not right when it comes out but MS will probably have patches in the future that will fix any lag problems.

isn't that because humans don't lag at all?

I can't be the only one who thinks something is wrong with claiming that following the movements on the screen is 1:1 tracking.

I'm sure Kinect can do it but can the launch software achieve 1:1? That's the question all the naysayers want answered. I mean the Wii didn't even have 1:1 when it launched and it was fine but I guess that's unacceptible when the product is coming from Microsoft.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

A game where the player mimics the movements of an on-screen avatar (instead of the other way around, like in most Kinect games) is not really a good example.

Nintendo never based their marketing on 1:1 tracking, unlike Microsoft.

That said I do believe that Kinect should be pretty close to 1:1, despite all the bugs we saw at some demos. I don't expect it to be able to track fingers though.

This,

and also, this king of game is something that really raises the hairs on my back and my mind can't wrap around the concept: so you try to imitate the movements of the character on screen, and that's the game??? ... erm ... auch, head hurts.
