Forums - Sales Discussion - Did Bayonetta sell badly?

It could have sold a lot better; it wasn't advertised correctly.

I think word of mouth hurt it a little too.  With the shoddy PS3 port to its striking similarities to Devil May Cry, it seems people didnt want another game like that. Hell the ones who bought it on my friends lists kept saying it was just Devil May Cry with a Librarian Witch as the main character.  But I still choose to get it becasue I liked Devil May Cry,  but they couldnt have been more correct about what they said.

I love how everyone mentions this when talking about God of War combos, but I am actually doing the same thing in Bayonetta.   I have used the same combo about 200 plus times already (5x Triangle),  and I have made it to level 5 already without much difficulty.   Why am I doing it?  I am doing it because I am using the same lack of imagination that everyone that has ever made the same comment you did.  So how is that for more strategic combo move set?

I also wouldnt say that the combo is innovative, all that ends up happening is you spam witch time and use the best combo (5x Triangle), rinse repeat.   Thats not innovation

Actually in Bayonetta defense the one viable combo is an unfortunate biproduct of the garbage PS3 version, the game is such a mess that trying any other combo is damn near impossible.  Honestly trade the PS3 version in get the xbox version and you may have a different opinion of the game, still even the xbox version is not better than GOW 3.

I would but I care about my trophies,  that and I just like the PS3 controller much better.

5x triangle with whihch weapon combination? It's not the most effective for any of them, but I'm curious.

Keep playing. You have options considerably better than Witch Time as time goes on, and when you play long enough they just take it away from you.

The Katana, but it doesnt matter if there is one more effective or not,  there are more effective combos in God of War III than The Plume of Promethesus,  but that doesnt stop people from being ignorant about it.

Sure there are more effective combos - largely dependent on the weapons you're using and rarely depending on the enemy you're facing even with the same weapon, but they're there. The PoP is just ind of a catch-all combo that can be used to get through the hwole gam except for the parts where you absolutely need something like the Cestus. This isn't true on higher difficulties, but if we're talking about that then you need to reassess everything you know about Bayonetta after beating it on a higher setting.

And yes, it does matter. You lose sight of the point if you express a subpar combo as being "the best".

I absolutely agree with everything you said, especially the last point you made in bold.

They made money so no it didn't sell badly.

It sold great. A new IP, not a very popular genre, average marketing, etc. It sold great for what it is.

I agree that it sold great, and was a great game. But this? Don't say this. Kratos will beat you up lol

It sold okay however they would almost certainly have sold more if the PS3 version hadn't so clearly been a rushed port.

Why they led on 360 for a title that by genre was almost a foregone conclusion to sell better on PS3 remains a mystery for me.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

No, I think it's sold pretty well actually!

I've said this before, and now it seems like they're also backwards on Vanquish (leading on PS3, genre's market heavily favors 360).

Yeah true, but if they lead on the 360, they would be competing with Gears 3 and as of yet i'm not aware of any huge 3rd person shooter on the PS3 for Vanquish to compete with; not to mention this will probabaily do really well in the Japanese market because its on the PS3.

if its just a FPS i would agree with you, but i want a TPS on par with Gears and we just dont have one, so i think in the EU it could potentially do as well as the 360 version, maybe better.
