I did a quick check, never noticed a difference of more than 5k in hardware, and software was virtually the same (despite a years worth more of PSP's sold). PSP is selling more than those right now, but PS3 can easily pass that number, and 360 is in a big slump but will bounce back with a price cut. ANYWAY, my point: PSP recieved a lot of 3rd party support in the beginning because it was thought to be the next big thing. It has been fairly succesful, but the progress in the past 18 months or so will not have been enough to encourage more 3rd parties to make games on PSP, outside of Japan of course.

But thats the thing . Most every change that happens in Japan will end in the US/EU . And tbh even tough we are still not seeing it the fact that Ubi actually promissed 12 games ( signs of 3rd party studios support ) and many companies like Planet Moon had shown interest in the resurection of the PSP , and with the support of the Japanese industry we could see the PSP comming back this year in Japan . Remember back at the beginning of 07 most of the games that where released where in production in 06 maybe even 05 .
Also the fact that PSP software sales where almost the same in 07 and 06 even with the hardware bump , and the PSP can maintaine an even a bit higher level now with arguably no killer game on the horizon is pretty impressive IMO , and yes that shows that the PSP is actually seeing an overall boost . A big one ? No . But IMO it will be enough for most developers to at least go for another round ... ( Similr to the end of the life period of the GC ) .
