I'd specifically go with the period where reveals for Smash Ultimate were a regular occurrence since that added a lot of fun and hype. The Sans costume reveal for example led to so many amazing reactions. I think Directs for most people will pick up again once the next Smash is revealed.

As somebody who was in high school at the time (and played in band, where "Sans Undertale" was the butt of about half of all jokes), this was an earth shattering reveal for some of the people I knew lol. I think Undertale has a very good shot at having an original character join the roster come Smash for Switch 2. Sakurai and Toby are on very good terms from everything I have seen.

Kris from Deltarune getting added as a proper character would be a great choice for the series first indie rep. It might even be doable to time it to where Deltarune's final chapter comes out around the time the reveal happens.
