While I'm not in the camp of "this gen sucks" personally, do I find it lesser than the PS3/360 or PS4/XBO generally, mostly cos a lot of Western devs have fallen off compared to the 2000s/2010s, along with Sony's live service push.

There's still a fair amount of good stuff; likes of Capcom are still putting out solid gold, plus you get some Western games that shine through like Indiana Jones, but I feel like the hit rate was definitely higher in the 8th and 7th gen. Part of that's also just due to games taking longer to make now.

You certainly can make an argument for western games being superior in the PS360 generation, but this gen is still a step up over the previous one in this department. Not to mention Korean and especially Chinese studios are now relevant players, they were pretty much a non-factor before this gen.

Sony's output and overall quality slightly dipped compared to PS4, but the difference often gets exaggerated.

Obviously taste is subjective, but I'd definitely consider Western games in the 8th gen better overall, you had Naughty Dog actually outputting games, you had genre-defining titles like Bloodborne, Sekiro, (even though they're not my cup of tea) Titanfall 2, Witcher 3, Doom 2016 and Eternal, Persona 5, MGS 5, Nier Automata, Monster Hunter World, Arkham Knight, Hellblade, etc.

A lot of current gen followups were also a downgrade from their 8th gen counterparts like MH Wilds, Hellblade 2, Dragon Age Veilguard, Gotham Knights, Outer Worlds 2, etc.

Again though, I guess it all comes down to preference.
