The problem is that the harmful uses and the slop content vastly, vastly outweighs the useful cases. If I had to guess it's more like 1 useful case to 1000 shitty ones.

And that's before we get into the tech itself stealing people's work, driving up prices, dumbing down society, and destroying the planet.

I just don't think more slop content is an issue though. Like according to SteamDB over 20k games were uploaded to Steam last year which is double the amount compared to 2020 and quadruple the amount compared to 2016 but my experience using the platform hasn't been hurt by that at all cause it's not hard to ignore the bad stuff so I'll gladly take more good games getting made for even more bad ones getting made as well.

For bad uses in general again the solution here is to support regulation to crack down on the aspects you dislike. You can't uninvent technology so it's best to take advantage of the benefits of it instead of inherently opposing something just for using it, especially when said technology is becoming increasingly ubiquitous. AI in software development now means certain things that used to take months can now be done in days and there's a ton of good that is gonna arise from that.

People will do bad things cause of that too but I'll be opposing that while supporting the good stuff. The technology is becoming so powerful and broad that reacting negatively to something just cause AI was utilized isn't tenable long term when it's gonna be be used to help do things like develop cures for diseases.

Slop is absolutely a big issue. People hate it and people are sick and tired of almost every platform being flooded with mindless AI garbage.

Regulation is badly needed, yes, because the problem is ultimately one of human nature; even if something is potentially useful in some ways, most people are going to use it shitty ways because it hands bad actors the ability to do bad things more quickly and easily.

When a technology's applications are so overwhelmingly harmful and bad (like I say, I'm being generous in saying at 1 in a 1000 cases are good) it's just common sense that people will oppose it, especially when it is increasing making our lives worse.
