There were so many competing experiences in the seventh generation that it made sense to have a 360, Wii and PS3. But Wii and one of those other two in particular was an awesome combo. You could get the majority of third-party games that gen whether you had a PS3 or 360 and you could play Nintendo games and any third-party games that interested you on Wii.

I think I remember from back then that there was a time when a Wii and an Xbox 360 together cost less than a PS3.

The cheaper 360 and Wii combined were cheaper at the start than getting the more expensive 60 GB PS3.

And even if you got a cheaper PS3 and any model of 360 + Wii, the price was still a lot. PS3 of course was an expensive 500 and 600 dollars because of the Blu-ray player, cell processor, graphics chip, and initial 2 generation backwards compatibility.

360+Wii seemed to be a very appealing combo before PS3 Slim came out.
