Also the SPD of old was also far more right than they are today.

When you say "SPD of old" when are you referring to by "old?"

Didn't the SPD used to be a genuine Orthodox Marxist party?

That seems well to the left of what mostly looks like a social liberal party today.

If you mean culturally it is to the left of what it was historically, that might be true, but culturally the developed world has shifted to the left, as we have been shedding agricultural society decayed institutions (i.e obsession with fertility for expanded agricultural production and the controls surrounding that.)

The economic consequences of capitalism and wage labor as the dominant relationship of production (versus subsistence farming) is what is making people in general "more left wing" culturally. It has just taken centuries for culture to shift with that reality as it further intensifies. That is also why the right wing's insistence on bringing back norms constructed in and for agricultural societies won't work in the long term.

Actually, the SPD started out being much more left than they are today.  People sure like to forget that they put out a hit on and assassinated Rosa Luxemburg even though she was once prominent member of the SPD party.
